Lou Gehrig 5

When you look at the package, the hitting, the glove, the brain, and the leadership, it is clear that this is the best first baseman ever.

One of those no-brainer selections as the best at a position, others may have been better fielders, but really only Foxx even comes close with the bat.

He was the greatest RBI machine ever! 13 straight years with at least 100, 12 straight .300 plus batting averages and averaged a rbi a game in series play. Who can say when the ALS started to began affecting him. Don't think he would have homered more than Ruth but would have had an untoucable lifetime rbi total. Let's also not forget that Yankee Stadium may have had a short right field but it had huge power alleys and 460 feet to center. How many homers did this cost him. Today they make parks smaller (Houston and Philadelphia are a joke)in his day they made them bigger. I might be screwey but I think he's the second best ever behind Ruth when you factor in all he brought to the table.

If he had lived longer, he possibly could have challenged Ruth's home run total and Ripken wouldn't have had a chance to break the record. One of baseball's greats.

Clearly the best first baseman of all time - likely the best baseball player of all time - certainly one of the greatest all-around human beings of all time.

It's hard to make a case against Gehrig. The longevity streak is incredible. But the batting numbers are freaked out. He is still baseball's all-time Grand Salami leader. Imagine how many times Babe Ruth would have been walked if Gehrig wasn't in the line up. With Gehrig in the line-up, the Yankees were perrenial champions. I can imagine he would have been a 600+ home run man and baseball's all-time RBI leader had he not been cut down by ALS. SHEER GREATNESS.
