For many years, the best first baseman in the league, and steady and solid even when he wasn't the best. So dependable it seemed you could write 30 HR and 100 RBI beside his name in April and look up and see the prediction fulfilled in September.
Not exactly a warm and cuddly guy, he was never popular with the media and didn't get the respect he deserved. Has over 3000 hits and 500 home runs, which is true of exactly two other players.
A good glove, well above average for the position, he is probably the best first baseman I saw play, and high in the running for at least a spot in the top five.

A grouchy guy, but one of the most consistent run producers of his time. Every year you could count on big totals from Eddie, and he remained a very effective, above average player at advanced ages where most players are retired. The best A.L. first baseman in the late 70's until mid 80's, before Mattingly took over for a few years, and a solid one after that who deserves his HOF plaque.

Definitely one of the greatest offensive players baseball has ever seen. One of three players with 500 hrs and 3000 hits.
