Indisputably one of the 19th century's greatest players, in fact, probably its best , at least in terms of career value- though a bully, tyrant, and notorious racist. A very large man for his day, though he played in a time where the quality of play and the competition one faced were considerably weaker. Still, he's the game's first great first baseman, and possibly a guy who could have still been great later on.
