The sabermetricians don't really like him very much, but he wasn't exactly bereft of power, for instance, coming in 2nd in 1920 in homers behind only the mighty Ruth. Great fielder, stole lots of bases too. In fairness, he was indeed helped by his home park, but he was thought of at the time as one of the greats of the game. Was clearly better before 1923 than after it- he missed that year because of eye problems. Similar to Ichiro as far as today's guys go, except of course in their positions.

Great guy with the leather, one of the best at the position but, in my view overrated as a hitter. A banjo hitting singles guy in an era of sluggers, he was a table setter rather than a run producer. Traditionally, teams get power hitters off the corners.
