Very good glove, almost in the Keith Hernandez class, and a high average hitter with minimal power. The latter characteristic is not normal for first basemen, but he played most of his career with the Cubs, who are know for unusual positionings, and he didn't really have the range or the arm to play anywhere else on the field.

Good glove, and a fine contact hitter with The Cubs and, briefly Arizona, though he didn't have a lot of power really.
