Decent hitter, and a better than average fielder until his hard nosed style of play started claiming the price on his body. The Mookie Wilson thing, as I have said earlier, was more manager McNamara's fault than Buckner's. His fine career is unfairly blemished by a single error.Having said all that, I don't think he's any better than 3 stars on a list of great first basemen.

One of the worst in WS Game 6's, obviously... :)

Had a solid career overall, led the league in hitting in 1980, could steal a bag in his younger days, and was a capable fielder before the knee problems. A good contact hitter with medium range power, below what you'd normally expect for a 1b, usually hit around 10 to 16 homers, that played a long time and amassed over 2, 700 hits. It's a cliche by now but still...McNamara should've put Dave Stapleton in in Game 6.

Had nearly 3,000 hits and batted over .300 15 times, but all he'll be remebered for is that god damn ground ball.

I went to high school with Bill. He was excellent in all sports. He was a natural. This guy was a role model for many kids for many years. Give him his due.

Billy Buck was a hardnosed, tough player and a great hitter.

one bad moment overshadowed some great things. 2 200 hit seasons, 300 avg, and grit. Ranks up there
