If he hadn't been blocked by Berra, this guy would almost undoubtedly be better known by contemporary fans. Terrific catcher during the first half of the 60's, and one of THE most underrated Yankee players ever, and it's hard to be underrated on the game's highest profile franchise. By all accounts that I've read, a hell of a guy too, decent and admirable.

He was an MVP, great hitter and receiver. Read Halberstam's description of him in October 1964.
