Postseason hero, good plate discipline, had power. No great shakes with the glove, and spent a fair amount of time at first, and probably would exclusively be a 1B/DH today. Had a fairly long career with the A's and Padres, reminds me a lot of, say, Mickey Tettleton.

Notwithstanding the above poster's bias, Gene Tenace put together a pretty decent career. I don't know how a career OBP of .388, several seasons of over 20 home runs (including one of 29), and singehandedly winning the World Series in 1972 makes you a piece of crap. Keep in mind that stats weren't inflated then as now (for a variety of reasons I'm sure we all know). Defensively he was no wonder, though, but I lived in the Bay Area during the 1970's, and I know how much Tenace meant to the team.
