The best player during the first ten years of the Los Angeles/California Angels. Then they traded him for the best Angel player ever. This was the guy that you drove to the "Big A" to see after the Cowboy (Gene Autry) brought the Halos to Anaheim.

Fregosi was a good player who had the misfortune to be swapped to The Mets in 1971 as part of a trade for a somewhat underachieving pitcher named Nolan Ryan, who of course went on to an amazing career. Easily the worst deal The Mets ever made, but it's a little unfair to criticize Fregosi- he was hardly a stiff, and no one could've known how great Ryan would become. He's also better known as a manager with several clubs, but in his prime in the 60's he was an All-Star caliber shortstop who went on to a long career, and, I'm not sure about this, but I think he was one of, if not THE, very last of the player-managers.

He was Mr Angel of the 1960s. 6 time All-star.
