Say what you will, but I will support A-Rod for one reason. I'd rather see his name in the record books for home runs than this: Barry Bonds* *= probably took outlawed performance enhancing substances

I can still hate this guy though, right? ARod is one of those freaks of nature that nearly defies description. Powerwise, only Mr. Cub (Ernie Banks) can compare this gigantic middle infielder, and his grace and fielding ability for a man of his size is akin to a point guard having the size and flair of Magic Johnson. The numbers he puts up are just mind-boggling. So is the fact that two of his former teams have seen fit to allow him to escape without putting up much of a struggle. Maybe the fiend that appeared against Boston in the playoffs a couple pf years ago (applying a karate chop to the Redsox first baseman while trying to beat out a close play at first) rears his ugly head in the locker room when the doors are closed. Could be. An awesome player, sure fire hall-of-famer, and an unprecedented talent.

He could retire today and legitimately be considered in the same category as Ripkin and Wagner as one of the SS's to ever play the game. A lock for Cooperstown already.

Kind of a prima donna, but an incredible player, and there is no tangible reason as to why he is 16th on this list at the time of writing. Excellent all-around player, arguably the best contemporary player.

Not the strongest character I will admit, but since when does that have any bearing on how well you play baseball (read: Ty Cobb). Already the best shortstop ever simply because of his offense. As a 3rd baseman he has some competition, but if he moves back to shortstop from it won't even be close by the time he retires.

Probably moves from a four to a five when he retires. In my opinion, he is one of the top three active players today. Is a better defensive shortstop than Jeter, but has accepted 3rd base well with the Yanks.

great talent; no heart.

Respect his talent, but lost all respect for him in the playoffs when he batted the ball out of the glove while running to firstbase... how classless is that.

Thats why he plays third base now, to bad. He could have been the greatest.

Not yet A-Rod you are still way too young yet.

Stat's say it all: best hitter, among the best fielders ever.

Pretty amazing to watch. He would pass Cal Ripken for all time HR's by a SS this year, except he will be playing 3rd base. He is an amazing batter and a great fielder as well.
