Not completely terrible but nothing special, they just sound boring to me.

They are one of the most innovative bands of the 90's at least. They brought something different to the table towards the end of the grunge era and continue to be intelligent and fresh musicians.

I find it very difficlut to comprehend how we can even rate music in general. I can almost enjoy all music from everywhere.  Everyone enjoys music differently and gets different things out of it.  As a musician I try to take in all forms of it and see what the artist was trying to do with thier music.  Tool to me is a very influential band because they do go beyond the boundries of the "standard" music thats on the radio.  They have a very unique writing style and I think you would have to open your mind to it. Love music.

Yeah. Tool. Definitely the most intelligent and complex band to ever grace this pair of ears. Chancellor, Carey, Keenan and Jones know how to keep the spirit fed my friends. As a bass player, I love hearing music that isn't in 4/4 and takes more than 3 notes to play.

tool puts on a killer show , they rock for 2 - 2 1/2 hours straight
they sound the same live as they do on cd, light show rivals floyds.

These feckers haven't made it over this side of the Atlantic. There is a God after all. So Stoopid1, I know nothing about music eh and musically  'no one is close'. Does that include Mozart, Beethoven, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and The Beatles. If so that's a new one on me. Yes. I have heard Tool and the only thing right about them is their name. Pretentious load of old b*ll*cks really.

Rock has evolved. From Deep Purple, to Ozzy, to Zepplin, Rush, metallica and Tool. Along the way, bands have made whatever they wanted rock to be and it turned into something else. Tool is Pure rock in it truest form!

The most OVERRATED excuse of a band out today! You can analyze and dissect their so called music all you want, but in the final analysis, it sounds like crap. Disjointed, dissonant, angst-ridden NOISE that absolutely goes NOWHERE musically! They are living proof that the current generation has lowered it's standards bigtime. The 'dumbing down of America' continues unabated with bands like Tool and politicians like 'W' being heralded as 'quality'!

THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!!! Anyone who says Tool sucks knows nothing about music! Lyrically and musically no one is close. And they arent a studio band either, they're just as good, no, better live! Disregard the 5 out of 5, they get a 6. They truly stand alone. NEW ALBUM SPRING '06!!!!!!!

i actually play music and i started in 1992 for one reason i heard a song like NOTHING else around basically the drummer(yea i play drums)i have seen them live(more than once)these guys HAVE studied their music and then gone into a band and incorporated 4 different views and come together in the same place,lets just say you have all heard of TOOL yet i am still waiting to see one advertisement in this country to promote them(shove them down our throats)that is why they are so good. they play great music therefore people tell other people about it and there you have TOOL, just listen BEFORE you judge!

I've heard their stuff, and I think most of it is junk. Some songs are good and very well written, but the majority of it falls very far short of any mark at all.

I think there funny. Disgustipated and Die Eier von Sataan are very humorous, satiracle songs. I've listened to them a little more, and think they are extremely talented, but a little too wierd to win me over.

Undeniably the greatest band to ever walk the earth in my opinion. Anything that has the slightest hint of maynards voice in it wins me over, danny's drumming moulding with adam and justins riffs is just sensational to say the least. This is not for the sheep minded MTV followers, but if you believe you have good musical taste in Alternative/Metal buy every album tool has to offer you will not be dissapointed.

Tool is awesome. Sober is the best video of all time. Some people might (for some reason) disagree with that... but they would be SO TOTALLY WRONG!!!

I loves Tool, but I'm disappointed with Maynard's views regarding religion. I mean, I think he's wrong, but I could respect him but for the fact that he totally acts immature by spewing profanities at Christ. Profanity is something that lets people know that the user still retains a 7th grade thought level.

Dark and Heavy,with lots of variety and texture in their style and sound.These guys are all 1st rate musicians-especially the bassist and drummer.

i went to the concert in bossier city,louisiana.it was great.i was in front and he gave me a backstage pass,and was very nice.maynard is one of the smartest people i ever had the pleasure to meet.

All I have to say is that Maynard James Keenan is a god. I can't wait for Tool's next album to come out.

Would somebody please tell me what makes them so special? To me they sound just like every other industrial/techno based rock band. They're o.k., but that's it.

Tool is the modern Pink Floyd and they are a band that has proven you can still be good without selling out to pop. listen to tool they are 1 out of 10 top bands of all time.

Tool is beyond and past everything. You have to listen to this music with an open mind in order to get it There is so much more effort and thought put into their music. I have great respect for them.

it took me a little while to get past the loud noise i heard coming from my brother's room and actually listen to what was going on. Undertow is an album that should be in every serious collection. It is perfect, balanced, musical, lyrical etc., etc., etc., for those of you who have heard it once and don't like it, i urge you to listen once more with an open mind, you'll probablly stumble across something that will change your opinion. and if you still don't like it, that's ok. :)

Im listening to them since 4 years, by now Im nineteen, and still, this journey seems to never reach an end. I highly recommend everyone to check out all the stuff(MerKaBa, 46&2, Aene(i)ma, Lateralu(i)s, the symbols, the videos, you know...EVERY SONG HAS A THOUSANDS OF LAYERS, especially since Aenema)appearing now and then you can find in the internet and elsewhere and not to bother about the common people(so their evil and satanic?- well.Goodbye Their is a difference. Spiral Out- Keep Going to where no ones ever been...All hail to existence

If you don't like tool than your a fool!!!!!!

Saw 'em in 2002 for the Lateralus tour because single off thealbum blew me away, and because I dug the hits off of Undertow. The rhythm section is cool, the singer is unique and interesting, and I dig thei 'progressive-ish' style. I also recognize how they've influenced a lot of bands in tone and sonic engineering. Seeing them live sucked tho, and they don't have a large body of commercially appealing songs. And the guitar playing kind of bites to me - more sound than substance

HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE TOOL?

Don't get me wrong, TOOL is a decent group but how in HELL did they get to the top of this list??? According to this site they are rated above Ozzy, Maiden, MetallicA, Megadeth and KISS. Now I ask you, how is this possible? Maybe they got their friends and family to come here and give them hi points.I just don't understand it.

It is amazing how these four men have created some of the most jaw dropping and brilliant music of the past two decades. With an amzing vocalists (Maynard James Keenen) and talented instrumentalists, TOOL can do it all from short, catchy, beat busting tunes to lengthy yet fluemtly flowing and awe inspiring epics. They are also the forefront music videos artists of this generation. Every video they have made is visual brilliance personified. At this rate,TOOL will become future rock legends for sure.

Ask most of today's rock musicians who the most talented rock band in the world is and they will all give you the same answer: Tool !! Count Ozzy, Durst and Aaron Lewis among a few of those. This is a band at the top of the food chain. Insightful, Vulnerable and insanely talented. Their music is deeply layered allowing it to sound new hundreds of times over. If you took the time to listen to their music you would understand that it is far more than "dark", as some here have labeled it. How can progress be possible in our own lives and as a society unless we confront our own demons and and our own hypocrisies. Insight leads to progress and then to healing. It takes amazing courage and sacrifice to tear those personal feelings out from within and mold them into a piece of lyrical art with the amazing depth that Maynard gives them. It's something that over half of the artists on this list could never even be capable of. A band with this kind of depth never has to rely on explosions, pretty videos, fashion or musical trends, a spot on TRL or the cover of Tiger Beat. This is ART. What music was meant to be. What music should be.. If you understand the technical aspects of music or can read and write it you know that every one of them is a consummate musician. Those of you that think they are gay or would have a problem with any of them if they were... There's always Bon Jovi, Poison or Skid Row. I hear their music is BLISS !! There is no better rock band in the world today than Tool. Period !!

What incredible depth. These guys are amazing in so many different ways. To understand these guys and their music requires an open mind and a brain.. Don't have one? Then you're never going to get it. Light years above he usual crap that pollutes the airwaves. Maynard writes from his soul, as if he forcefully ripped out every painful memory and laid it out on a table. This band is writing music that is so far ahead of its time that it may not be fully appreciated for years to come. 46 & 2 details human effort to evolve into a more genetically intelligent species. Ironic that most music seems to send us into the opposite direction. "Black then white are all I see in my infancy red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me lets me see there is so much more and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities. As below, so above and beyond, I imagine drawn outside the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it Bend. Over thinking, over analyzing seperates the body from the mind. Wtihering my intuition leaving all these oppportunities behind". (Lateralus) Maynard. The very best in music today. Original music, outstanding musicians and deep, thoughtful lyrics. Not only is this crap evil and satanic; it's also just plain boring, unentertaining music. How they have any amount of success is beyond me.
