An excellent fielder with great range and a fine arm, at his peak Flood might well have been the best defensive centerfielder in the game. 

He brought a good bat with decent power to the plate and was a key figure on some good Cardinals teams.

He was also a smart, proud and courageous man, who sacrificed his career to challenge the injustice of baseball's reserve clause.

Best known for fighting the reserve clause, but a terrific fielder and good hitter who was a component of the Cardinals success in the 60's.
