The best right field arm I have ever seen. I remember him turning obvious doubles into singles, and gunning down runners at third or home with ease and aplomb. A dangerous hitter and terrifying on the basepaths, he was one of the very best.

My official OFN (Old-fart-network) raves about Clemente. . .most regard him as one of (if not the) best defensive outfielder ever. . .led the league in outfield assists years after people stopped challenging his arm on the basepaths. . .could hit, run, throw, and was a clutch performer in the World Series. . .a hypochondriac and a whiner? Yes- but we all have our quirks. . .one of the members of CS's "OFN" spoke of Clemente in glowing terms: "He ran like a deer. . .he was the most beautiful damn ballplayer I ever saw."

Highest B.A. of his era, best fielder, best arm, ran well, clutch (hit in all 14 World Series games in which he appeared) not to mention great human.

Awesome player , one of the truly great right fielders of history, and a noted humanitarian. Great arm, hit for high averages with decent power, fast, and a postseason hero. Easy HOF choice.

BEST FIELDER, BEST ARM, BEST HITTER IN BASEBALL DURING THE 60'S. ONLY PROBLEM WITH ROBERTO IS HE PLAYED IN SMALL MARKET CITY AND DIDN'T GET RECOGNITION HE DESERVED.

Great ballplayer. Always showed aggressiveness which was ironic because off the field, he was an exceedingly generous person. Would've loved to see him play. He had a great Series in '71.

A better person than a ballplayer-- and he was one hell of a ballplayer.

Not sure where JBW is getting his cues, but this category is for Best RF not Best Hitting RF... That being cleared up, if you ever saw the guy play, you would know that he was the best at his position that you had ever seen. Opposing teams would try NOT to hit to RF at any cost. The complexion of the game changed when he took his position... How many players have had that effect on a game?

Lke Brooks Robinson at third, Clemente IMO is just an OK choice for best overall right fielder in history, if that. I'd take Ruth, Aaron, Frank Robinson, Mel Ott, and Al Kaline ahead of him, and probably a couple more. Great batting average plus medium power plus low walks does not equal a great-hitting right fielder, except in his very best years. Forbes Field hurt his power, but probably helped him for batting average at least as much. A great player, of course, but it'd get boring for me to give these good and great players nothing but 4s and 5s.
