Very, very good player, one of the very, very best in the N.L. in the late 70's- could hit, led the league in batting average, run, hit for power, had a great arm from right field, helped the Pirates win it all in '79.. Loved watching him play as a kid, very exciting player, though I saw him play infrequently in those pre -cable days, as all we had on tv (except the game of the week) was the Red Sox...What happened? Well, he had drug problems in the early 80's, and was one of the guys implicated in the cocaine scandals then, and his numbers dropped off considerably. Went to Cincinatti and had a very good year in '85 with them, and some other good ones with various clubs. May have wrecked his HOF case, as it is, he's pretty close, and may or may not get voted in someday. Great player at his peak, and a very good career overall.
