HOF'er with Detroit in the 1910's and 20's, and briefly with the Reds at the end of his career in the early 30's. Heilmann, perhaps more than anyone else, was helped by the changes that brought about the lively ball, a pretty good player prior to 1920, who improved drastically- winning batting titles in all of the odd years from 1921-27, and he hit with considerable power too. While his numbers make him look better than he is when one understands that it was a period that greatly favored hitters, he was certainly a very, very good player who deserves his plaque in Cooperstown.
