Murcer had some fine years with The Yankees in the late 60's/ early 70's when they were a moribund franchise, easily their best everyday guy in that time. He also played for the Giants and Cubs before returning to New York as a pinch hitter/ backup in the early 80's. Somewhat unfairly expected to replace fellow Oklahoma native Mantle,( I believe Murcer started out playing center, correct me if I'm wrong) he was traded straight up for Bobby Bonds after the '74 season. A good, though certainly not great player with a wide range of skills in his prime.
