 | Gumeraser (0) 06/26/2008 | I've never heard any broadcaster turn home runs into long outs more consistently than Charley Steiner. He's pathetic - which is particularly when Vin Scully leaves the radio booth after three innings, and Steiner attempts to take over.

 | McGowan (2) 12/18/2005 | Okay as a play-by-play man with ESPN radio. Was at his best on Sportscenter.Wether losing it while trying to comment after showing Carl lewis' infamously awful National Anthem in 1993,or the ESPN parody ads of the mid-to-late '90s ( My personal favorite will always be the one where ESPN's personalities audition for Jerry Maguire , and Charlie monotonously says the "You had me at hello" line ), he was one of the more truly entertaining personalities they've ever had , better than kenny mayne or stuart scott have ever been.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 04/23/2005 | I have to agree that Charlie is much better giving sports news than announcing events - but I think Charlie's terrific. I must admit a personal bias because I met him briefly and found him to be a nice guy who seems to understand and enjoy how lucky he is to have his job.

 | Johnny Roulette (3) 01/11/2001 | I never really thought he was very amusing until those commercials started airing. I obviously misjudged him early on. His baseball commentary is very bad, but that's the only weakness in his game. Excellent on Sportscenter. If he didn't do baseball games I would have given him a five star rating.

 | Munson (7) 01/10/2001 | Charley is very underrated. He does a great job on SportsCenter - he knows sports and doesn't take himself too seriously (his work doing play by play for MLB games leaves a little to be desired in my book). Plus, the best ESPN commercials are the ones with him. There was one that aired only once (it was pulled because Nike threatened to sue) and was a take-off on Nike's "I am Tiger Woods" campaign with children saying "I am Charley Steiner." Just thinking about it makes me laugh.

 | magellan (153) 01/10/2001 | He's pretty funny in the ESPN commercials (my favorite Steiner commercial is "Y2K Preparation" in which Charley Steiner has tied his tie around his head and is racing around a burning ESPN studio with a glazed look in his eyes), but there is something grating about him when he actually tries to be a sports reporter. In my opinion, he is definitely not on par with Dan Patrick, Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Trey Wingo, or any of the other ESPN heavy weights.
