Sam Rice 4

Sam Rice has a hell of an interesting story. His whole family was killed in a tornado, and I believe he suffered from amnesia for a while too. He didn't get started until he was about 25, but was a very good contact hitter with speed and a fine fielder too. He had little power, but wound up with almost 3,000 hits, made the Hall, and played, mostly with Washington, until he was well into his 40's. He made a famous, controversial, "did he or didn't he?" catch in the '24 Series, a great one between the Senators and Giants. Upon his death, a letter was opened as Rice had requested in which he revealed that he in fact did make it. One of the more interesting lives of players in the Hall.
