Even tho he played the rat, it had to be done. They say Canseco got so dis-enfranchised with the game be burned or trashed ALL of his baseball memorabilia, and awards.

I'm sure everyone else gives Canseco negative marks, but I believe it's mostly undeserved. Canseco used steroids, just like so many other players during the '90s, but at least he has admitted it (even if he's now using this admission to try to make money). Much like Jim Bouton, the author of "Ball Four" who revealed the real lives of ballplayers to the world, Canseco broke the code that ballplayers don't rat on each other. As a result, everyone now describes Canseco as having no credibility, but everything he's claimed in "Juiced" has proven to be true.

At least he admitted to it.

Decent bat on the juice, but I seem to remember a fly ball skipping off of his head and over the wall for a home run...

Although I have not seen that many Oakland games, many of the ones I did see had Canseco "playing" right field. Rather than fielding, he waved at the ball.

I did NOT use steroids

C'mon. . .let's forget the steroid use. . .if you remove Jose's fraudulent batting numbers, we have to remember that he was a below-average glove on a day that he actually cared. . .

When he was young he was indisputably a great player, albeit with mediocre to poor defensive skills. As he aged and discovered the wonders of chemistry he became a solidly one dimensional player, still able to jack the ball out of any park except Yellowstone, but bereft of his early speed, and a total liability in the field.
Now, of course, he can't let go, and while many of his accusations and revalations in his ghostwritten "Juiced" have proved to be correct, he has now degenerated to the point of foolishness, determined to maintain a validity he does not have.

The longer he tries to hold on to the spotlight, the more he soils whatever legacy he had.

I agree most with the review submitted by alpepper. Forget for a moment about the juicing, the testimony before Congress, the dating Madonna, the reality TV , the attempt at pitching in a blowout game and getting hurt, the ball bouncing off his noggin, etc. The guy was a great all-around player in '88 and deserved his MVP that year. Canseco had some other good years too with Oakland and other clubs, had speed when he was young- but he alienated a lot of people, moved from club to club for good reason, and although he could always crank out homers, he wasted his gifts, wasn't much of a fielder, and his career ended very ignominiously.

Are you guys serious? I can't believe you guys even consider this bum for the title of greatest right fielder! I mean, even leaving the fact that all of his homers were chemically induced, this clown couldn't catch a can o' corn. Don't you even remember the one that he let bounce off his head for a homer? Get real.

Between the steroid use and selfish attitude shouldnt be on this list.

He might go down as the greatest eligible player not to make it to the Hall of Fame. Most people who saw him late in his career will consider him a Dave Kingman-like player, doing little more than hit a home run sandwiched between a slew of whiffs. However, in the earlier part of his career, he was an incredible package of speed and power. His 1988 season was one of the greatest ever, leading the league in homers, RBI and becomming baseball's first 40-40 (homer-SBs) man. Integral part of Oakland's 3 straight pennants from 1988-1990. Sad to say, but it appears the 'roids drove him over the brink.

You know, i am a real baseball fan. Regardless of who you like, or don't, the point is, are they good or bad? Jose Canseco is accomplished. Canseco was a thrill to watch. He is always going to be a homerun king to me...
