Historians and writers have a wide range of opinions on this guy, who played for the Phillies and Cubs from the end of the 20's until the 40's. For one thing, his peak was rather brief, and his best years were spent in a hitter's era with home games in The Baker Bowl, the Phillies park, which was a hitter's paradise and a pitcher's hell, plus the Phillies were truly dreadful most, in fact virtually all of the time back then. On the other hand, Klein hit a lot of taters and drove in a ton of runs at his best, and surely not all of that is due to the benefits he got by playing there, I'm reasonably certain he'd have been a star anywhere back then. In any event, he was one of the best sluggers in the N.L. at that time, eventually making the Hall.
