Babe Herman was fortunate to play in an era when batting statistics were as inflated as German Marks in the Weimar Republic. He never really led the league in anything. Even when he hit .393 in 1930 (a year where some teams had ERAs of over 6.50), Bill Terry hit .400. No MVPs and no World Series possible explains why he'll never make the Hall of Fame. His defense, while mostly anecdotal, was so suspect that to make a "Babe Herman" is used to describe when a player makes a real boneheaded defensive play.

20's/30's player, best known as a Brooklyn Dodger. Good hitter, had power and good batting averages though in part that's due to the huge offensive totals of Herman's prime, but still, a good hitter- but a legendarily horrible fielder, though an interesting and funny character
