Pretty good, one of the best of his era, but like all who pitched back in the 1880's gets a huge leg up from the conditions and pitching rules of the period.

A 19th century guy who had a relatively brief career, like most hurlers of his time. Won over 300 games, and his 1884 season with 59 wins, was , and is, simply astounding, even taking into account that the game was very different back then, and not as high in terms of quality- due to segregation, style of play, and other factors. Deservedly in the Hall of Fame.
