Best of the brokers I use. Ahead of schwab, ameriprise (americanexpress), and etrade. Too bad merged with etrade.

Harris was unbelievably great compared to Etrade. I think Etrade is going to lose a lot of money by purchasing Harris. Not because they bought a bad company---they bought a very good company. But because Etrade has treated all of the former Harris customers so badly. Many have left, the rest are leaving. If Etrade has always been this bad, I don't see why their previous customers stay there. Probably because they have never been with a good broker---so they have no basis for comparison. They think you are supposed to have lost stocks, wait on phones for hours, get treated rudely, etc. No it is not supposed to be that way. And it wasn't at Harris---before the sale to Etrade.

Just changing my rating. Harris direct was the best, etrade has a problem.

I was with dlj, then csfb, then harris and .... very unfortunately now with etrade. Am a "select client" and cannot reach anyone by phone at all. Having difficulty with their web site and no one to talk to. I too am looking for another online broker. Harrisdirct and MarketSpeed were the very best in customer service and product. So very sorry to lose them, and I'm hoping etrade will be sorry to lose me - but I doubt it.

Its a shame Harris is now gone. They were the best. I have had accts at E-trade, Harris, & Fidelity for many years. THe MarketSpeed software program was very user freindly and intuitive. I made timed comparisons between both, Harris won easily sometimes by several hundred percent. Even today, my account info after the trasnfer is screwed up at E-trade. Looking for a new broker.

I have had an account here for about 5 to 7 years (with their predecessors, actually) and trade sporadically. I like the layout of the site and portfolio monitoring is very easy and trading is even easier.

I've been a customer for several years: Positive: Great customer service, reasonable fees, easy-to-use, very reliable web site Negative: no good place to park cash - money market rates poor, Treasuries expensive (cf. Vanguard, Fidelity)

I am transferring all three of our accounts to another firm. The reason being is that I own mostly Canadian stocks. The commission is $7.95 + $75.00 plus they are charging a $5. per quarter holding fee for each foreign holding. They are charging more than any other broker that I have come across. It is fairly easy to find a broker who will do these trades for $27 - 30. with out a quarterly holding fee. I let them know why I was leaving and I have never seen anyone who could care less so adios amigos. You should go to JD Power and note their rating of Harris - way down the list.
