As a pitcher, merely good, definitely not great. Still, for a lefty in Fenway Park, to win 17 games three straight years is very impressive. His book The Wrong Stuff is hilarious, and for baseball fans you either love him or hate him: he is either a leftist rabble-rouser or a countercultural icon. Regardless of your views about busing, his response to long time racist City Councilor Dapper O'Neill's spelling mistake riddled letter concerning busing is absolutely priceless. One of my favorite players when I first got into baseball as a kid in Dorchester, MA.

he gets my vote simply because he once said he put marijuana on his pancakes in the morning. Oh yeah, and that crazy ass hair and beard he had in Montreal. Very courier de bois....

Junkball, fast ball, curveball in the dirt. Looked like he was your uncle throwing BP to a Little League team half the time, but until he got hurt, he could find a lot of ways to win. Good interview too.
