Autotrader gets alot of daily hits.. but beware of them nickling and diming you to death!! Also be aware that if you list your car on autotrader.com and a potential buyer searches for your car using Mozzila firefox he will most likely not find it! This is because Autotrader search feature is not compatible with one of the most popular web browsers on earth (mozzila firefox)! Crazy i know!!

I called up and learned of this after repeated searched for the car i had listed would not show up..i then requested a refund and learned that this is in the Fine print somewhere so i was refused a refund! thats great customer service huh??? use cars.com or craigslist.org

Terrible service first and last time I will use autotrader.com they absolutely in my opinion suck. Did not recieve one phone call from interested buyer, but did recieve several email requests to complete survey. Dont show phone number properly, failed to publish photo. They suck. Money wasted, use your local paper or craiglist or some other service save you money. 7/2009

Have used it to sell 5 cars over the years....sometimes it took longer than I expected for the ad to show but I must say the customer service was very good and the effectiveness was always great! We sold our last two cars in two days, locally, and at solid prices. Have sold everything from our high end Jag. which we just did not drive to our older car with 100,000 miles on it. I am pleased with them.

Terrible! Took a week to post initial ad; did NOT return my emails asking for assistance. Did NOT send confirmation that I had stopped the ad.

DO NOT use this "service" cause it isn't one!

I don't use this site as a text book pricing manual as much as how much certain cars are selling on the market. It gives you a great list of every type of vehicles available and the website is really comprehensive to use.

DO NOT USE AUTOTRADER!!!! Nightmare technical and customer service! I listed my car on Autotrader, cars.com amd craigslist....It took nearly 3 days for the ad to post on autotrader. I had nothing but technical problems with Autotrader (thumbnail disappeared whenever it was added and photos disappeared and needed to be reloaded). They could never fix the problem and said it was a common problem that they were having with many other ads. I finally got fed up and cancelled the ad. I had paid $69 for it and asked for a refund or at least to just charge me the rate they charge for the ad with no thumbnail. They refused and would only give me a $10 credit. I argued and argued for nearly an hour over this. I DID NOT GET WHAT I PAID FOR AND THEY DID NOT CARE. I cannot believe that they would fight with me over this issue....

Use cars.com. It is cheaper, has better service and I got calls from people who saw my car there (and a few from craigslist).

Just went through the process of selling a car, listed it on both autotrader and craigslist. Took about 3 weeks to sell.

Autotrader had both a phone number and a email listed, I got zero emails and about a dozen phone calls from outfits wanting me to spend more money listing my car with their services. All these were pretty dubious - the sort of place that claims a money back guarantee, but when you look them up online you see many people complaining that they had lots of difficulty getting their money back.

On the other hand the craigslist ad had only an email listed, and I got about 20 emails, of which a dozen or so were real buyers, and one of those bought the car.

Conclusion - not only did I waste $50 on Autotrader, but I could have saved myself a lot of annoying phone calls if I avoided them altogether.

This site was helpful as far a trying to locate a car. Unfortunaly my buying experince was not good. You may be in trouble if you are not carful. We bought from Autohaus in Richardson Texas and were sold a car that had the directional tires MOUNTED ON BACKWARDS. The car had a blow out and the other tires were worn. You may be taken if you are from out of State. BE CAREFUL!!!

Bought two cars based on AutoTrader searches. The response was excellent both times, but that is more about the seller than the site. Good site in general.

In regard to kellysaun post about the BUYER/ SELLER BEWARE this is a common scam that takes different forms. It is not in the least unique to AutoTrader. The mechanics of the thing is "always" the same and "Nigeria" is the most common place it originates. The person always overpays you and has a reason for this. In most instances you are allowed to keep a percentage of the overpayment. The check arrives and you deposit it. You send the difference via Western Union. The check eventually bounces and your account is charged back. If you have a significant amount it the account to begin with, you've just been screwed. More importantly it doesn't work if you don't have at least the same amount in your account as the money you sent by Western Union. Anyway AutoTrader is the best. Also the best to determine what to sell your car for. Imagine using NADA to find the value of your auto, or Edmunds, or Kelley Blue Book to determine the value of your car. Guess what? AutoTrader is the "live" real time value of your car. IOW, you don't need NADA to get info from dealers a month later to find out what the cars are selling for. Today, right now, you can not only get the price of cars selling in your zip code, you can expand it or move it to wherever you like. IOW, if seven cars just like yours with the same number of miles, same condition are selling for $15,000 today, right now and NADA says your car is worth $18,000. You are going to have to wait until the seven cars are sold for anyone to be the slightest bit interested in your car. Ditto for the reverse... giving it away at NADA prices but the real live market is selling the same ones much higher. Basically AutoTrader has made the NADA and the likes obsolete except for loan values.

BUYER/ SELLER BEWARE....Since April 2005, I have had a truck listed on Auto Trader.com. I have had 6 contacts generated and 3 have been confirmed scams. Unfortunately, I lost a substantial amount of money in the first and no one seems interested in doing anything to prevent these from happening, nor investigating them. I have reported everyone to not only, Auto Trader, but also the email service they use. The only response I receive is a generated email that thanks me for my report. The emails are below. READ AND PROTECT yourself if you use this auto selling service... We are interested in your vehicle posted at the autotrader, get back to me with the current millage/asking price and present location of the vehicle if the vehicle is still avaliable. Louis Thanks for the reply. Please, would you mind answering these important questions below,to enable me know about the car my client is buying? 1, Is the engine in perfect condition? Answer........................................ 2, How often do you service the car? Answer.......................................... 3, How many miles is the car at the moment? Thanks for your understanding.. God bless, Thanks for your mail.I wish to inform you due to time constraints on fact that we do not have much time , i have finalized with my client on your price of $16,000 USD and is ok by him, also have forwarded your last mail with the pictures posted at the autotrader to him for his proper records purpose. He said that i should inform you that a US Certified Cashiers Check of $24,420, that covers shipping charges, pick-up,agent's fees and other chargers, would get to you, and this is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by him (my client). Due to the Refund company's policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you ,because the company's policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check. So you are required to deduct cost of your car which is $16,000 when payment gets to you and refund balance of $8,420 to my customer via western union money transfer or money gram transfer for him to be able to offset shipping charges of the car . After pay has reached you and balance sent back to him,our agent will come for the pick up and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer, while title papers and other necessary documents would be sent by you via courier to my customer. Please Confirm this and provide your legal name.......... Telephone number........... Home Address .................................... For check payment to be delivered to you via courier serivce. Thanks and God bless you.

The most easy to use and helpful automotive site out there. I've searched them all. They have literally hundreds of SUVs like what I'm looking to buy with good research info. I even listed and sold my truck within 2 weeks. Cool...
