Antibiotics for acne has not made a lot of sense to me; I guess it is relatively cheap compared to other oral meds. Never worked for my acne but did increase my skin's sensitvity to the sun. Prolonged use could make your teeth yellow and increases susceptibility to yeast infections. Maybe try it once or better yet use a topical antibiotic...

So far I have only been on this about two weeks. I could only give it a two because I haven't been on it very long and also, I already use REtina which got rid of the major breakouts I was having to begin with. I am taking this for back acne but two days ago got put on the birth control patch which is supposed to help with the acne too. So now I do not know what the effects will be.

This product is pretty good, but my skin did seem to eventually become somewhat immune to it's effects. But it is still helpful.

I used the topical form. It made my skin itchy and I got tiny bumps all over my forehead that made it look as though i'd been in a fire!

I did not have any side effects or stomach problems from Erythromycin. I took 333mg twice a day. I also previously applied topical Erythromycin, but my doctor stopped it. Erythromycin is one of the most common antibiotics, and studies have shown that at least 25% of acne bacteria is resitant to it. Erythromycin personally did nothing for me. If it works for you, more power to you, but I have never known anyone for whom it has worked (for acne).

I gave it a 3, only because I've only been on it for 2 weeks.. so I don't really know how well it's working. I've noticed I start to feel really out of it, to a point where I shouldn't be driving, and I feel very nausious. I tried "tetracylin" Got off that in less than 2 weeks though.. I hated taking it.. made me feel sick, and made my skin extremely itchy. My guess is I was allergic, so a month later due to no time to visit a doctor I got switched to this. I now have cysts =/ I'm also using clindoxl gel with benzoyl peroxide.. which only seems to help the normal pimples.. doesn't help black heads.. "bumps" or the cysts.. Should I maybe be on something else? I'm still breaking out daily... n the only difference is.. dryer lips.. GO medicine that has done NOTHING HELPFUL! =/ How long do you suggest I continue to try this? or should I see a dr. now?

Antibiotics have never worked for me in the long run, this included. This one actually did not even work while I was on it.

Like frangela9, I too had bad stomach pains from this antibiotic and came off them after only two weeks, it another two weeks for my stomach to return to normal !! - My doctor did not belive it was the Erthromycin and said I should try it again, and when I did, of course the pain returned !!. (well da ! (;-) ). Visit www.acne.homestead.com for my acne diary.

Worked good when I used it for about 3 months to clear up a bad breakout cycle on my back. I've never had acne there since. Beware - I had a severe reaction with my stomach! Pain, pain, pain - and lost a lot of weight as a result! It's all if you're willing to live with that risk. I was for a while ... then gave it up!

It initally cleared up my acne after taken for 3 months. But after 6 months or so, the bacteria adapted to it and I had to switch to another medication. At its prime, however, it worked pretty well.
