Apia is the capital of Samoa located on the northern coast of Upolu Island. Apia is the economic, social, and political center of the country. Apia is also Samoa’s only port and city. Exports include bananas, copra, and cocoa. A major site in Apia is Mulin’u, the old ceremonial capital of the Samoan Kingdom. Robert Louis Stevenson lived in Apia the last four years of his life, and is buried on Mt. Vaea, at a point that overlooks his home and the entire city. The estimated population of Apia is 38,000 residents.
