You realize, of course, that a technical writer submitted an invoice for $5,000 for this piece of deathless prose.

Well thank you, Captain Obvious...

I've seen warnings on labels like this on a lot of different things. I think all that they're doing is trying to protect themselves from a lawsuit. And if it means being stupid, well...
Mulvil 11/02/2006
Since peanuts are actually a member of the bean family and not the nut family this is a very valid warning
hiwwwwwrfds 12/01/2005
lol yess open packet eat nuts(someone got paid big buts to rite that 1)
Redoedo 09/22/2005
Well I'll be. Golly geez. Who woulda thunk it?
Gentle Jude 09/10/2005
I didn't know that peanuts weren't actually nuts but made from other products with nuts in them lol. No wonder they taste like nuts!
kamylienne 01/08/2005
Warning: Painfully Obvious. Actually, technically, the warning is incorrect--a peanut is not a true nut; it is a legume. Not that anyone cares, but there it is.
Aurielle 11/28/2004
I've seen this one before. The only thing I can think is that some people don't consider peanuts to be nuts. But, wow, stating the obvious, Sainsbury.
Mad Hatter 09/25/2004
I kinda got that idea from the name of the product.
PTRoxieMisha 09/20/2004
It's an excellent label for those who are allergic to nuts or anything containing nuts (some people have serious reactions with just one tiny drop of peanut oil...)
Jamie McBain 08/01/2004
What else would it contain?
muppetlass87 07/14/2004
(Gasp) No, you think?
MissPackRat4Je sus 04/21/2004
Well, d-uh. That's what they ARE!!!

Their Legal department was clearly working overtime to come up with these words of genius. Sometimes a little legal paranoia can diffuse a frivolous lawsuit, other times a corporate lawyer demands their stamp on company packaging for no other reason than to feel important and irritate the Marketing department.
JonTheMan 04/07/2004
Yeh Gods! What sort of twisted black magic is this?
Molfan 03/28/2004
Gee, you think? of course i suppose thanks to the sue happy comsumers out there they have to put this on their product. just like McDonalds has to warn the coffee may be hot.
scarletfeather 03/26/2004
I appreciate that information.
Sundiszno 03/26/2004
As nutty as it may seem (bad pun, I know), there may be people out there who can grasp that they are allergic to nuts, but can't figure out that a peanut is a nut as well. So, although I seriously doubt it, this may be a case of making sure that even an idiot knows that there are nuts in the bag.
abichara 03/25/2004
No kidding? A bag of peanuts has no nuts? What were they expecting? The warning label is put on to protect producers against lawsuits by people who are allergic to nuts.
Enkidu 03/24/2004
There used to be apple turnovers sold in our company vending machine that stated, in fine print, contains no apple. At least it wasn't a warning.
oldiesmusicfan 101 03/24/2004
Hilarious, the other good one, Warning: This product may contain traces of peanuts on a package of peanuts. The other part of that is, what is the rest???
