Good show, but how does an actress as appalling as Jennifer Lopez get her head on it? Defies description - really! She's a joke of an actress, what could she possibly impart? She might be a beautiful woman, but that's got nothing to do with accomplished acting. James Lipton is good on the whole, but too much of a brown-nose, if you ask me. If you're running out of good actors to interview, just don't produce any more. Try a different formula. Just don't interview deadbeats like Lopez.

Sometimes entertaing, depending on the guest. The Mike Myers & Simpsons cast were good episodes.

Sending valentines to hollywood ignoramuses is not my idea of a good show. Most of the time this show makes you retch.

This show is a sleep remedy more than anything else.

Basically depends on the guest. If the guest is someone like George Carlin or Anthony Hopkins discussing the intricacies of their craft, it can be fascinating. If its some swelled-head (and ass) non-entity like Jennifer Lopez pretending she's an accomplished actress, it can be downright painful.

It's a pretty good show for showcasing rich arrogant self reitious and self proclaimed Hollywood eletist types even though the host looks like he's made of wax. It's funny to see all those idiot half-baked Hollywood actors taking themselves so seriously.

Great host if not a total brown-noser. They deserve a zero for having on Jennifer Lopez, and devoting so much time on Barbara Streisand.

What would we do without ego? Measured level gives the world something to rate -- about you, about your world, your possible worth for knowing you or wanting to know about you. A wall flower you may paper over. A pain in the rump you may avoid. Perhaps you may be inclined to hold their hand and perhaps draw them nearer. James Lipton is so perfect for this show! He is able to get the guests to show us a little bit of insight into the real person behind the performer.

When a performer such as Robin Williams can come onto a program and send someone to the hospital for lauging to damn hard, hell that is something special. Jim......well.....he something to be desired but still a great program.
bubbaknowsbest 03/26/2004
I like it depending on who's being interviewed. Sally Field was lots of fun when she was on. One tip for Big Jim though...He should read his mail and respond more often to the viewers ideas. People have been sending him suggestions for interviews for the show but he never invites anyone on that we ask him to...This makes the show much less appealing...

I'm sorry, but I've never learned anything nwe about an actor/actress whenever I have watched this show. The hosts, James Lipton, is not even that good of an interviewer. Plus, it appears that the audience has to laugh at the actor's and the host's jokes. It's as if they have to appease them because they're up there. All in all, this show is just another pulpit for hollywood elite.

This is one of those shows out there that are not your usual show but is there for those who are interested in people's opinions on their reflection against their audiences and how they think of themselves and their surroundings as opposed to what most people would ordinarily say. As for me, I find it a good way to tell which celebrities actually have some good insight and understanding to their career rather than just your typical rich actor who cannot elaborate on a simple topic.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Will Ferrel does the dude brilliantly. Puhleeze all you actor, director wannabees wake up and craft it yourselves what are you leaning on the every co2's of the flava of the week, month, era?

For some disturbing news about the true character of James Lipton by someone who knows him, go to www.LiptonIsEvil.com. It will change forever what you think of that pompous, fawning windbag.

boring. what is so interesting about some actor's life? it's not like they found a cure for aids or something! and james lipton needs to find a hobby...what a loser.

Appreciation of the dedication of actors, directors, etc even though I don't believe many of them to be particularly good at their craft.James Lipton is outstanding in drawing out responses and answers.
Redoedo 05/31/2003
James Lipton can be pretty boring, but even that cannot destroy the perfect demeanor of this show. I really enjoy watching some of my favorite actors offering some of their insights into their lives and ours, and not to mention their own movies. A pretty good show.

boring actoring talking about their little affairs, like it means something
raftspinner 03/19/2003
The premise of talking to actors just to glorify them more than the hype machine (Entertainment Tonight, E!, People...) already does is pretty lame. If the program gave insight to how they do their jobs instead of watching Lipton basically bow down at the feet of his idols, it would have some redeeming value. But instead, there is no redeeming social value here.

It is a parody of a parody. Dumb people pretending to be of import and substance. Dull as watching paint drying.
Molfan 02/06/2003
I find this show pretty good. I usually tune in to see if it is an actor or actress I would like to see. James Lipton can be a bit boring but at least he knows about acting. He seems to have a knack to at least get the actors relaxed to talk. My one problem is trying to figure out when this show is on. I see it on the Bravo station.and they move it around a lot.

I am an admirer of good performance. I am not necessarily that interested in the performers themselves, especially when they display such self grandeur. The actress whom I respected most has been Meryl Streep, but after the display of self importance I witnessed on the show, I'm at present put off from her. Sharon Stone epitomized self adoration. She and others are urged on by the transparent Mr. Lipton. His ability to host with such gush is numbing, I doubt I'll watch many more episodes. Perhaps I misunderstand the intent of the show, after all, these are performers-host and guests- and in all fairness they do put on quite a performance.
CanadaSucks 08/23/2002
Yes, it does pander to the guests. . .yes, jimmy lipton tosses softball-esque questions to the actors. . .But it is a refreshing, relaxed presentation that is the anti-matter of the cotton-candy creampuff garbage I see on TV. I like to hear movie stars talk about ACTING instead of their latest "projects" and answering stupid questions about who they are screwing. A good show with substance. And think about this- don't you wish you could be interviewed by james lipton? This guy could make your 3rd grade play seem like an artistic revelation.
Dolliac 03/19/2002
Definately one of the most fascinating shows on the air. I suppose the interest will change for people with the personality being interviewed, but those I have seen have been very interesting. I really enjoyed the episode with Sarah Jessica Parker stating that her dream goal in life would be to become a grocery store proprieter. Hahaha!
callmetootie 02/03/2002
Inside The Actors Studio has a good premise, and it tries hard to work...but the actors are chosen terribly and the interviewer needs to get a life.
CastleBee 07/03/2001
I'm leaning toward the positive but still somewhat on the fence with this Bravo offering. While it is obviously a gratuitous presentation of already over-inflated egos, it is also a reasonably well done and interesting one. I'm probably wrong, but the moderator gives me the distinct impression that he also may have had his hopes set on and once upon a time started out in the arts - but didn't make the cut in exactly the way he envisioned. So, he now finds himself reconciled to playing the bearded, intellectual theatre-is-my life host. I do find the "if there is a heaven," questions at the end of some of the interviews a bit pompous. But overall, I still think this is a decent attempt to do something more dignified with the otherwise tapped out and tacky talk show genre.
Munson 01/15/2001
While definitely hit or miss, more times than not this show is good. Big stars sit (this weekend, I saw Mike Myers and Harrison Ford on two separate shows) and are interviewed by James Lipton. The interview takes place in front of Lipton's acting and directing students at The New School in NYC and Lipton goes beyond the normal questions of a more traditional talk show. He tries to get at what drives them as actors. In addition, the show has been forever immortalized by Wil Ferrel on SNL in one of the funnier regular sketches. Granted, Lipton's sycophantic style can get tiresome, but the quality of the guests often makes it worth it.
