The founder of the Scottish line of kings, Kenneth the Hardy ensured his kingship by murdering seven Earls of Dalriada at a banquet in Scone.

Hospitality was always a dangerous thing in Scottish history, and Kenneth was not the first or last to make use of murder and treachery as a political tool.

Hospitality or not, he had to ensure his position somehow. There weren't many rules or conventions then.
