 | excelsior30 (8) 06/07/2004 | A balance of vetrans and young players on this team can suprise many when they face the partially anemic Canucks. the Goaltending and scoring can vault them to the next level. update- Yep, a big suprise! It is not just the competior's star player taken out in the regular season that did not make his team move farther and the top golie being injured, it is Calgary finishing their checks and the great black player, Jarome Iginla delivering when needed. The Kipper was strong in goal also. Detroit should not underestimate the power of this team. 5/2 UPDATE- Anyone that can finish off the one that had the best record in the regular season in less than 7 deserves five stars. DO NOT look at their seeding, it's deceptive! By the way they played in the SC quarters, they are like the Anaheim of last year, but since it has been a long time since these Flames last been in the playoffs, the team was committed emotionally to play tough and the fans stayed loyal to their team. The Sharks should look out- they should not focus only on Iginla, everyone contributes on this team, and yes, they can be better than the Mighty Ducks of last year. 5/22: Oh Canada! Can you believe what's happening? Not only am i expecting ABC to finally air hockey in Canada, I'm also looking as two natural disaters facing each other. They will have to look out for the Lightning's ability to shoot through defenders when they are on the Power Play. They love to score there. We shall see which disaster we have to fear soon... Though Lightning do not strike twice they can be deadly. They are equal to them in the power, but the defense that kept blocking shots with their bodies has denied yet again another Canadian team from returning the cup to its home; but it has been a good fight.

I'm amazed because I really never noticed the Flames before, but now, they're like my 3rd favorite team, after Toronto and Minnesota... they've got a bit of work to do, but what team doesn't? They'll just have to make sure that the Lightning don't strike back in Game 6.

 | irishgit (138) 05/05/2004 | They have all but clinched a berth in the playoffs and could be a nasty surprise for their opponents there. Lots of potential with good firepower and some hard knocking muckers. Whoever they wind up facing in the first round will have their hands full. UPDATE: They look like a medevac station after a gruelling series with Vancouver. A great goalie is likely to be much more heavily pressured by the Red Wings than the Canucks could manage. Could be out real quickly. Emotion can only carry a team so far. UPDATE: Has outplayed two far more talented teams, but I think their run ends in the third round. They have a fine goalie, and one of the prime offensive forces in the league in Iginla, but the rest of the team are limited talent muckers. They are still not fully recovered from two physical series, and will have their hands full with the Sharks. They play a brutally ugly style of hockey, and personally I hope they're out quickly.
