What a shame. Condeleleeza is a brilliant woman and is culturally aware. A college teacher. How could she betray not only her own intelligence but also her knowledge to serve and support the manipulative lies of the Bush Administration. Again and again she has supported an international policy that betrays common sense and the history and culture of the international community she is trying to influence. What a waste of brilliance.

One of Bush's most loyal puppets, she started her carrer as an assistant political science professor in Stanford, then became administrator , professor and eventually climbed up to the head of...Chevron committee on public policy, where they named an oil tanker after her.  It was renamed shortly after because of controversy (Michael Moore mentioned it in "Dude, Where's my country"). In 2000, she left Stanford to become Bush's foreign policy advisor. It's all downhill from there.

It is a very unfortunate that narrow-minded liars can make it in the politics.

I saw Condi in a TV interview a 2 or 3 years ago where Condi was confronted about the illegal aliens/Mexican border problem before it started becoming a red hot issue. Her answers were very out of touch with reality,.... immovable and defending the status quo of do nothingism to the max, stubborn, totally blind and refusing to see any problems. After that interview I changed my view of her, I didn't see reasonableness, honesty and openness in her. Bush has changed his position lately on the illegal alien issue but only slooooowly....and only as a stubborn mule moves only after much pain is in inflicted, which seems like Bush's only learning method lately. While there are many things I admire about Secretary Rice, I must say that I am in total disagreement with regard to her dangerous policies toward Israel, I also question her intentions on this matter. HE who keeps Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers.... He will curse those who curse Israel and bless those who bless her.... The apple of HIS eye.... I believe I read something in Ezekiel about the eyeballs and flesh melting off the bodies, of several nations, before their bones hit the ground, who decide at some time in the future to attack Israel.... I also distinctly remember reading that 5 out of 6 of these attackers would be killed in a bloody massacre, some time in the future, when they attack Israel and their blood would reach a horses bridle.... etc. Something to think about anyway.... I don't really have much of an opinion of Condi Rice, as she has never (?) in my memory expressed a view different than Bush's. She has been rewarded for this loyalty, but it still doesn't help me figuring out if she has ideas of her own. However edt4, I'm not sure what her race has to do with it. No reason that I'm aware of that Blacks can't be big government and unilateral in their policy thinking.

Hmm...I'd be very wary of this lady. She has style and class but has stated that she fully supports the Administration's hardline policies. Time will tell what her approach will be as international diplomat and representative of Bush's ideas; somehow I think her inexperience will turn to abrasiveness. I suspect Colin Powell knew what he was up against and bailed out before it gets really sticky.

I believe that many I believe that the problem many blacks have with Dr. Rice is that it is difficult to reconcile the fact that this talented and intelligent black woman can sit back and defend the record of this president particularly in the area of civil rights. True Dr. Rice had a very difficult journey to get where she is today. But the reality is that because of Bush's lack of leadership on civil rights,it will even more difficult for the black women to get to where she is. If she has as much of the President's ear as many claim she does, one would think she could use some of that influence to keep him honest. Based on what I've seen, she's unwilling to do that which is very disappointing from one black man's perspective.

Update: Interesting that AJ got caught in a bold-faced lie about the aluminum tubes (see 10/3 NYT lead article). She now has zero credibility and her career is even more ruined than Powell's. As I've pointed out before, I find Condoleeza Rice's credentials rather overrated. As NSC advisor, she's been behind the ball on a variety of issues, including terrorism. Seems as if she's more willing to go along rather than get along. However, she does have President Bush's ear on foreign policy matters; Rice acts as an intermediary between Cheney and Colin Powell, who don't exactly see eye to eye. However, Rice comes down as a neo-conservative in the turf wars that have become part of the Bush administration. Generally, she's been good on Asian and Russian issues, but her lack of knowledge on the Middle East has been a major problem for her.

I have to agree with Bibliophile on this. There's no doubt Condi Rice is very smart and cultured. I respect anyone who is as educated as she is. But I'll never figure out why she chose to ally herself with the Bush dynasty. The Bushes have never pretended any interest in bettering the lot of black women. I guess Condi saw a chance to advance herself and figured she was hitching her wagon to a star. Talk about selling out!
