This show is Sex and The City for geriatrics. When I watched it as a kid, the sex jokes always went over my head, still have fond memories of it despite that. The characters played off each other so well. I love Rose and her simple life, Blanche was an entertaining slut, Dorothy was the sarcastic one who never got a date and Sophia was the sarcastic mother figure, who happened to also be Dorothys mom. The show got a way with a lot of risque behavior (for its time) I think because of the age of the charaters disarmed the censors. the formula worked, good show. Rest in Peace Estelle Getty.

I might have been too young to really appreciate it but I did watch...

I know most people thought that Rue McClanahan was the total sexed out hottie, but I always thought that Bea Arthur was the one who could get the job done.
jrriney 12/24/2008
loved the girls.
paula3962000 09/15/2008
such a wonderful heartwarming show
imdavidk 08/04/2008
Best. Show. Ever. Still as relevant today as it was 20 years ago. Who knew how progressive the show would be, especially considering that the dynamic featured later turned up as "Sex and the City."
Spike65 07/02/2008
Well crafted show, just not my cup of tea. Bea Arthur was much easier to watch in this show than in Maude.
XAgent 12/19/2007
I can remember seeing bits of it as I was channel surfing for something entertaining to watch.
uncnc08 12/19/2007
I still watch this show from time to time it's kind of hard to miss it if you watch the Lifetime network. The cast of the show meshed well with each other. And it was funny and I guess cutting edge at the time it came out in the 80's. Dorothy is my favourite character, followed by Blanche.
MidstoryMeanie 77 11/28/2007
Very funny and enjoyable to watch, and most of the episodes are very great. Keep broadcasting, Lifetime.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 10/23/2007
Definitely the best sitcom with all female lead characters and one of the better 80s US comedies. It had a nice feel to it even if it wasnt wall to wall belly laughs. Still guranteed to get a few chuckles per show.
Jamie McBain 08/12/2007
Loved watching the show, Sophia is one of my favorite charecters, while Rose comes in a close sceond.

Bea Arthur Is A Man, Right? Betty White Is Cool But The Other Old Bitches Make Me Wanna Puke!
twansalem 05/06/2007
Not my favorite. But my grandma really liked it.
CloudTen 11/03/2006
Betty is SO funny and all these ladies did such a great job. It's amazing that they still continue to work in other areas. Betty has pretty much done it all and soon will take part in Bold and Beautiful. Bea has done Broadway and has hearing problems now. Estelle is not well and in a type of nursing home. Rue is still acting on Broadway a lot too.
Djahuti 09/19/2006
Great cast, but the writing wasn't always up to par.
Jeremy00081 09/19/2006
This show might be funnier than I'm willing to admit, but I couldn't stand it. Golden girls just aren't my thing, weather they're on TV, playing bingo, or sitting in my living room. Get them golden oldies as far away from me as humanly possible! They're GRRRRRRRRROSS!
JuneF 09/18/2006
The girls are great and I still watch the reruns almost every day. If you want to laugh out loud, this is a great show to tune into. All the actresses are pro's, yet Betty will always be my favorite.
trebon1038 07/24/2006
I love Golden Girls and still watch it in reruns. The chemistry between the cast and characters makes it a great show. And Im sorry, no one plays the dumb bimbo like Betty white!
TimmyAdonis 06/18/2006
Laugh out loud funny! I still love to watch reruns. Betty is the best, but all of the cast are wonderful in their roles.
AsuzaSt 05/24/2006
Watch this show every evening. I love Rose and her St. Olaf stories.
Vudija 02/07/2006
I've always loved this show! I didn't watch it when it was on the air, but watching re-runs of it today...hilarious! Sophia was always my favorite character; but you have to love them all.
BlueOrchid 02/06/2006
Those little old ladies are so cute.
bdupree 01/30/2006
yea, 50 year old women talking about sex. Sign me up.
VivVan 01/30/2006
There have not been many programs that stood the test of time like this one. I LOVE LUCY, ALL IN THE FAMILY, and maybe a couple of others can always make you laugh....and GOLDEN GIRLS falls into this wonderful category. The writing was superb. The acting was outstanding with such pros. We all have our favorites and mine is Betty White. As long as stations like Lifetime keep airing this program, I'll be watching over and over - it really cheers me up. Laughter is the best medicine.
habitat007 01/30/2006
it was ok.... I still think B arthur is hot... Just jokin
miketou 01/19/2006
I loved this show in the 80's and still watch it in reruns. To this day it makes me laugh out loud, even though I know the storylines by heart. I love all the girls, but my favorite was Blanche. She was one sexy old broad. The scripts and writing was top notch, and the ladies had great chemistry and timing. If they ever stop the reruns, I will buy the entire DVD collection!
wpb1310 12/28/2005
how can four old women be funny. I never watched this show when it was on the air because in those days cbs was for old people. Now in re-run man this is funny. Betty White funny, Getty love her purse. I would TIVO this show.
Chalky 12/08/2005
if you were forced to sleep with one of the golden girls, who would it be?
BB2004 12/04/2005
All programs that Ms. White have been in were spectacular. This show is legendary and keeps people of all ages laughing. Fun, fun, fun!
Diedre 11/29/2005
THE BEST show of the 80s and I still love watching it.
Arizona Bird 11/14/2005
At the time there was no show like Golden Girls. This show was made in the 80's when most of the shows were about teenagers or parents living with teenagers. But Golden Girls was about something that was odd at that time.....independent but single older Ladies! But somehow the show was still a hit on the TV ratings(I think that it was the older people at that time that were watching Golden Girls because they could understand how the ladies in the show were feeling because they may have been feeling the same way). I don't think of myself as being old(so you better think the same way)but I still love this show. I think that Golden Girls should have had higher ratings than The Cosby Show or Cheers(However Golden Girls was always a top five or top ten show until the 7th season). Another thing I like is that the script for the Golden Girls is intimate without going overboard like the script of Desperate Housewives or Sex and The City(if anybody has read my other messages you all may sense that I have a problem with sex being on TV. Well it is just that I think that TV show creators have to be balanced with what they make so that the show they are coming up with is not boring but is not able to dirty up the mind of the viewers and I think that the creators of Golden Girls did a pretty nice job doing that). Very minor problems that I have with the show is that the ladies are always having a night of romance before saying their wedding vows(sadly that is common among people of all ages today)and the next and last problem is that the ladies never really get to say wedding vows because something is always going wrong at their weddings! But those problems don't matter a whole lot and to me Golden Girls is still golden when The Cosby show and Cheers is silver and bronze.
HistoryFan 11/04/2005
It's a funny show and I love the theme song but it gets kinda old when watching a show about the sex lives of senior citizens.
heatther 11/01/2005
I love this show...they are all so funny did you know that there is actually a a college called St. Olife University!!
GobTheHotCop 10/26/2005
Not really my thing, a show about old women.
Montgomery 10/13/2005
I love Betty White, so almost any program she's on is excellent for me.
mstv 10/09/2005
It seemed like this program could have lasted forever. Love watching it again on reruns. Someone wrote that Sophia got the best "zinger" lines, and I do agree, though of all the Girls, the only one whose acting was a bit different was Estelle Getty (probably due to her Broadway training). Sorry she is so ill now. The other 3 Girls are fantastic and worked beautifully together. Their comedy, wit, timing, etc., was PERFECT. Of course, my favorite Girl is Betty White and the wonderful Rose! I still love to watch it.
faraway 10/07/2005
Our Sick Stressful world needs these kind of shows, that are entertaining and make you laugh. The Golden Girls is one of the best rated right up there with Lucille Ball. Please dont take it off. Laughing is the best thing for our bodies to mend and stay healthy. There is absolutely not much on the all the cable channels that we are all forced to pay but junk. Keep the Golden Girls on and on an early time slot so all can still enjoy and relax to. thank you
cjmyers41 10/03/2005
I am not sure why but I watched it when every it came on, it was always over before I could turn the channel.
25Kimbo 09/29/2005
Ok, this show was GREAT when it was on prime time tv. WHY IS IT STILL ON; ESPECIALLY MORE THAN ONE TIMES PER DAY. I'M SO SICK OF THIS SHOW I COULD SCREAM. I watched the re-runs, ok LET THE SHOW END!!!!!!!
OwenA 09/15/2005
Amazingly funny program! Love watching the re-runs on LifeTime channel. They always make me laugh. Writers were great and the actors - well I have to say Betty was the best one, though they were all pros.
Tuna 08/30/2005
SO funny! My favorite was Rose. Love to watch re-runs. The cast was so professional and witty. Loved the writing.
excelsior30 08/27/2005
Still being seen on Lifetime Channel. Though I'm the opposite sex, I do watch it sometimes and it still cracks me up! It's good that there is a DVD now; we may never know when the channel will cancel it. This one with its funny antics of old single women trying to find some love (even if they're divorced or widowed) deserves to last longer than expected on CBS. You should also see the spinoff, The Golden Palace. Except for Beatrice Arthur, the original cast stars, and Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle star; it is equally funny as the original.
pip_squeak 08/15/2005
No s*itcom on TV today comes even close to the Golden Girls. I highly doubt that Will & Grace or King of Queens will be remembered as fondly as the Golden Girls 20 years from now.
iamfromhelltoo 08/12/2005
this is crap
rjy 08/12/2005
This was a great show to watch and was funny!
Beblessed 08/11/2005
Too bad they don't make shows like this any more. There are no sitcoms now that make me laugh out loud like Betty and the gang did. Lifetime has done a great service to rerun this program almost daily.
susank 08/10/2005
LOVE IT!!!!!
