Go if you want to be blindly robbed! i went to the one in sc at broadway at the beach. it was the last night of my honeymoon and i was going to be flying back home the next day. the food was good and out waitress was nice. the problem i had was i bought some tshirts to remember out trip well the girl who rang up the shirts decided to give herself a tip!!! i would of not relized it (because i used a visa gift card which was a wedding gift) and when i went to use it at another store it wouldnt work. i then called joes crab shack, that night, to find out what was going on and to get it fixed i left my number and everything and no one ever called me back. so i called the next day because the manager i was told i needed to talk to was going to be there. well he wasnt and the lady that was there was totaly RUDE!!!! and said oh well there is nothing we can do. keep in mind i had to spend the last day of my honeymoon dealing with this and almost missed my flight home. so im just trying to get my money back and finally get the lady to give me a number of someone who might be able to help. so i call him and i say i just want my money and maybe a shirt.. so he says he will give the manager my number and have him call me. so i wait and wait and finally get a call well the manager says that it is just my card and this happens all the time! big flip it does i had just used the same type of card the day before and it didnt happen, the girl just gave herslef a tip. so almost three weeks after this happens i finally get something... and its a certificate for a free dinner, like thats going to help i told all the people i talked to several times there is NO joes crab shack anywhere near me. the closest one is like 200 miles away! so unless you want to be robbed blind (on your honeymoon to boot) i would NOT GO!!!!!!

My family and I went into the city and often make the trip to have dinner and enjoy the sites. We were extremely happy with the food and incredibly surprised that there was a very fun and exciting family entertainment that comes with our meal. The staff was extremely courteous, helpful and more importantly made the experience for our kids (ages 11, 13 & 15) a lot of fun and memorable! I would recommend it for all families, couples and anyone who is looking for a combination of great food and a wonderful time!! We are especially looking forward to coming into S.F. again based on our experience at Joe's Crab Shack! You will not be disappointed. :);)

Review: Ok--My husband and I ate at the Joe's Crab Shack in the San Diego area. We found the food to be quite delicious (yes, we were hungry). The wait to be seated was not bad. The service and atmosphere was quite crude--but we figured out after a while that was purposeful. This was our only problem--real problem with the place: Every person that was serving us food advertised in some way on their T shirt that they had an STD!--This was so UNAPPETIZING!! I really don't care to have waiters or waitresses-or chefs or anyone else touching my food to have "crabs"--(slang for pubic lice!) This was so gross! All the T-shirts that the staff were wearing had the double meaning in regards to "crabs" like: "My waitress gave me crabs at Joe's Crab Shack" and "Crabs are for eating not for itching" and the like. I'd suggest that Joe's Crab Shack get a new and CLEANER idea for promotional advertising. People who think that dirty double meanings are funny for public use just don't have class in my opinion, and I certainly was repulsed by the idea when I was served my food after reading all the t-shirts of the workers going by. YUCK! and no thanks.--Other than that, the whole experience would have been pretty nice. From: San Diego

Naples, FL: This was by far the worst dining experience ever. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE!!!! I had a similar situation last year here, but I am all for a second chance. We were seated immediatley, and ordered four appetizers for a party of five. Well thank goodness we didnt order an entree, we would have gotten it the following morning. It took 15 minutes everytime for a refill. I had to constantly go up to the counter, I just wanted to fill it myself. My family and I asked for the same thing at least three times. The restaurant is clean, its just very POORLY RUN!!!! There were three employees. A manager and two waitresses. THEY COOKED THE MEALS THEMSELVES!!!! THERE WERE NO COOKS!!! Three tables around us became furious and complanied. It was a very uncomfortable and dissapointing experience. All three tables gave back one plate, and they were all fish. One said it "was cold and flaky" Unless you have a good story that may take a few hours and you want to tell your friends every detail I suggest you go somewhere else. The manager came and said "I am so sorry I will give you an appetizer for free", sure enough we get the check and its on there, I would have said something however, I would have waited an hour over a five dollar appetizer and I just wanted to get the hell out of there. It was so beyond pathetic, I just couldnt bother. If you choose to go, or get invited and cant get out of it(try your best to), ask for the check as soon as you order, if not bring a sleeping bag and get comftorable, you will be there for a while. Notice that every good comment is the restaurant in Las Vegas, which makes sense because a city like that would never allow a resteraunt to have such poor service, so it's the rest of the country that gets screwed.

Went to the San Francisco location today. Being as it's located at FISHERMAN's WARF, you'd think they'd really pull out all the stops to make sure the fish was superior. But, it was not. In fact, it was cold, stiff and super fishy. I stopped eating for fear of food poisoning! We were the first couple in the place too, so you'd think everything would be super fresh. The staff was really sweet though so, this bad review is in no way a reflection of how we were treated. Just go for drinks and apps....do dinner/lunch elsewhere.

Visited the location at Lake Buena Vista. The food was good and the service was ok. The servers all dance every hour or so, which is a good thing because it distracts you from asking where your food or drinks are...lol. The host stand seemed to be unorganized, even with a manager, "Sara" helping out. She seemed very unpersonable. She did a round of checking on tables, and hit every one around us except ours. Guess she didn't want to have to deal with any concerns. The food was pretty good for the price and the atmosphere was fun, maybe the management is more friendly at another location.

My husband and I and another couple ate at Joe's Crab Shack In Pearland, Tx. The food was very mediocre. The music was loud and the service was very poor. On top of that, I read the waitress' T-Shirt and it say "Crabs are for Eating...Not Itching". I thought I was going to hurl my food I had just ate. I thought that was of extremely poor taste and could not believe management would support that...Where have our morals gone.

I have eaten at the Joe's Crab Shack in Louisville and it is pretty good. It is on the Ohio River and I have always been pleased with both food and service.

it barely deserves the compliment of a one star i'm giving it. i'm all for an entertaining environment... but there is a limit that i suppose this place doesn't know about. and the shrimp must've just been seasoned in the grease it's cooked it. If i wanted to pay for crap i'd hire a toilet as my chef. Just go home if you have this place in mind.

[Las Vegas, Best in the West location] What I ordered was okay, but it wasn't worth the total of $50 to eat there for two! Service was decent, it was around noon on a weekday so they were not too busy. The place looks very nice, almost like a marina, but the food doesn't taste like it. Spend your mone elsewhere.
freelancecriti c 01/15/2008
If the kitchen ever ran out of bread crumbs this place would have to close it's doors. And of course their deep fat fryers get plenty of use. An excellent place if you like deep-fried bread with a little seafood.
brie0016 12/17/2007
I did not care for Joes at all, It tastes like something you could get outta your own freezer. I will never go back.
dothanbama 11/08/2007
Oh God the one in Mobile was wretched! 9 different items on the menu they were OUT OF? ITS MOBILE! We have seafood since WE ARE ON THE COAST! They got what they deserved when they went out of business!
2muchbi7ching 09/15/2007
For you people complaining about the atmosphere you obviously went to the wrong place!! Joe's is a very fun atmosphere with loud music and at least you get some entertainment while you eat!! you should try living a little and try to have fun, if you are trying to have a fancy dinner than maybe your planning should be a little different!! I drive a half hour just to be able to go eat in such a kicked back fun environment and you guys want to complain about everything!! The items they sell in their store are supposed to be funny and the reason they sell them is because obviously some people like them!! loud and too full of people?? well then maybe you should try to stay home and cook yourself, in your boring environment!!!!

Based on my single visit to one outlet, I have to wonder what kind of crabs they're talking about.

We always go tot the one in Vegas. Great for kids and the balloon guy is amazing!!!!!
athenian 05/24/2007
Atmospehere is fun. I really like the location in Naples Florida. Its right on the river. Food is just ok, but most people dont go there for the gourmet cuisine. Most items are served in a basket with fries. As far as chain seafood restaurants go, Red Lobster is probably better, but you'll probably have more fun at Joe's!

The one just outside of Kansas City, MO, is excellent! I love their crab legs and coconut shrimp, not to mention the appetizers. Really good food, laid back atmosphere, and really nice wait staff, EVERY time I've gone.

Here in Memphis, overated! I was not impressed.

all breading, hardly any fish.
NikkiS75 07/18/2006
I have to agree with people who have rated Joe's Crab Shack poorly. I went there once and once was enough. The food wasnt' bad (I had stone crab and nearly slapped the waitress it was so good, LOL!), but the sheer volume level was too much for me. It's a pity I can't seem to find stone crab anywhere else... :(

Good food, not as mind boggling expensive as you would think, fun decore, but despite the obvious over silliness, a very good place to eat.
bdp234 05/21/2006
The worst place in the known world to eat. What is up with the dancing? I mean come on....the kids even thought it was strange. we felt like we were at a midevil mess hall. The crab was like eating an old leather shoe. The shrimp were tiny little and crappy and covered with enough breading in hopes that you wouldn't notice how awful they were. How can you mess up crab if your name is the Crabshack. The crab legs were most likely sitting in the freezer for about a year or so. I would have rather eaten my own legs.
Gourmand 01/29/2006
COLD food..no excuse..ever..very expensive with small portions. Their emphasis is making money on the alcohol served, not the food. [Grapevine location] Skip it!
INOitALL 10/29/2005
Expensive.
adc103051 10/24/2005
I think they fry everything in the same artery clogging grease. Everything taste the same.
RMKnight06 10/22/2005
I think it's one of the greatest restaurants there is. It's fun and always exciting. The food is excellent and the service is impeccable. Every time i'm in Las vegas, i will always stop.
rushrulz 10/15/2005
I've been twice and have been amazed at how bad it is. The musical number they do? Even if I could tolerate the noise, the waitstaff isn't allowed to do their jobs while it's going on. But I think the low point there was having awful snow crab. It's called Joe's Crab Shack, and they can't make crabs? They were stringy and dry and wouldn't come out of the shell.
rwalker 10/10/2005
very good food best coconut shrimp we have had
emily930 08/17/2005
It's suppose to be loud and fun. Thats the whole point. If you thought you were going for a quiet intimate dinner you went to the wrong place. The food is good and there's no money amount you can put on the looks of youre childs faces. I highly recomend it.
musicprof 08/13/2005
If you are hungry for some great seafood, you came to the wrong place. If you came for a fun experince while dining on decent food, you there. Tolerable food, fun atmosphere, pretty fair staff. Not Bad.
texasyankee 05/22/2005
The one here in Plano, my husband and I went for our anniversary first year in Texas, and for a chain place, it was pretty good. The waitresses were fun, they started dancing country, which was an amusing form of entertainment. I don't like how they have the store with all this Joe crab shack crap for unreasonable prices. My motto is, if I am going to advertise for you, you better give me the t-shirt for free. Had my first crayfish there, and enjoyed myself. Not a bad price, either.
Randyman 02/20/2005
The food is not bad, but when I asked why Lobster wasn't on the menu, the waiter just shrugged and said I dunno. A seafood restaurant that doesn't serve Lobster?
defbean 12/30/2004
Incredibly annoying place, it's usually really loud and full of too many people. The food is ok.
Skizero 12/14/2004
not too bad on the clam strips. like the tall drafts of beer they have. but can't enjoy the place. a tourist restaurant with rubbery sea food.
sberhard 12/13/2004
Lame; poor food, little flavor, slow service, bizarre music (they crank it up every 5th song or so to give the place a sense of excitement), and at least in Vancouver Washington, a great location. But it doesn't make up for the overall lameness of the experience. Go to Beaches, a mile or two to the East.
oscarboy 11/17/2004
Ok but they turn the music up too loud.
Specialboothvi cJr. 11/12/2004
Nice atmosphere and food. For a good dinner, eat here.
WarGamefan93 09/24/2004
Good place. Good price. Even though the place is a little loud, it's still good. I like to eat the crackers for a snack sometimes. But the place is a little expensive.
alpepper 06/11/2004
Enjoy going there anytime. Seafood is good and plentiful. Their coconut shrimp is the best. It's a fun restaurant too. My daughter loves to join the waitstaff when they do the conga line to songs like YMCA.
