I really liked her as an actress. She was beautiful. I loved her in Gone with the Wind. Her southern accent had gotten to be pretty perfect. She did a good version of the character and deserved the Oscar.

An amazingly talented and beautiful actress with great screen presence. I loved her portrayal of the deeply troubled Blanche Dubois in 'A Streetcar named Desire'. She was perfect for the role.

Vivien Leigh was the most beautiful, talented actress ever to come out of England. She was definitely perfect for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.It was very breathtaking and no one could have done it better.I don't think any stage actress ever did so well on the screen as Vivien did,and no other screen actress ever did so well on the stage...for this reason she was unique.

Beautiful and talented woman, and it's sad she struggled with mental illness. If she were alive today, there are medications that could have helped her function better. Yes, she was a wonderful Scarlett, but she was absolutely heartbreaking in A Streetcar Named Desire. It's almost painful to watch her in that movie.

I agree with GoneAway, her role in Gone with the Wind was unforgetable.

First of all, she is more beautiful than any actress out there today, and I don't think anyone could have played Scarlett as wonderfully as her.

Vivien Leigh is another one of my favorite actresses. I adored her in Gone with the Wind and it is my all time favorite movie. No other person could have been Scarlet O'Hara. Another one of her great performances was in A Streetcar Named Desire which I thoroughly enjoyed. Her acting was unmatched and she made me weep with pain. Not that many actresses/actors have made me feel the pain they are expressing through their characters quite like her. As far as beauty, she was gorgeous and had such a natural beauty. May her greatness be remembered forever.

There has never been a more enchanting actress to grace our screens. Vivien brought so much depth to her character. Every role that she ever had I could never imagine anyone else playing it. I wish there was some way that we could see all of her stage preformances for that is where she truely loved to be. Her and Laurence were the perfect pair to ever grace England.

Not only was she an extremely beautiful actress she possessed amazing talent. Her portrayal as Scarlett was pure magic no wonder why Selznick took one look at her and said i found my Scarlett. She is my idol when it comes to acting and i would have to say her greatest performance was not that of Scarlett but of Blanche Dubois in "A Streetcar Named Desire" she was a legend of unparallel portions. She was a star even among the stars

She is such a good actress in Gone with the Wind that it makes her even more beautiful. She is what made that movie what it was.

Oh, I`m so glad to find her so up here in this rating. I would like to give 10 points, but I guess I can´t. Have been admiring her ever since I found out about her. Also, I recommend reading her biographies - extremely interesting person!

A beautiful, charismatic, extremely talented actress. She excelled in films and also did some Broadway. Having had manic depression it's amazing that she was able to accomplish her wonderful work that all of us consider legendary.

I've always considered Bette Davis to be Hollywood's finest actress ever, but even she couldn't play Scarlett as well as Vivien did. Ms Leigh is truly astounding in that role. Go watch her in 'Gone With The Wind' - this is what real acting is all about!
Balrog51 11/13/2002
What an incredibly beautiful woman. So talented, and the perfect choice, of course!, for Scarlett O'Hara. If you get a chance to see the screen tests for the other well-known actresses who wanted that role, you'll see how VL stood out, even from that crowd.
danagrace 05/07/2002
great talent
Molfan 03/06/2002
She was great in Gone With The Wind, and A StreetCar Named Desire. Toward the very end she was not quite as good. but she will always stand out as Scarlett O'Hara.

She was awsome in "Gone with the wind". If I could only do one thing in my life, I would do a nes version of that movie, and make Vivien proud. Then, she was very talented and beautiful in other movies, ALSO.

Beautiful and captivating.

Vivien Leigh is one of the most talented and beautiful actresses of all time. In 'Gone With The Wind' she was absolutely stunning in beauty and unforgettable in portrayal. She has, for all time, completely captured the role, as hers alone. But her superb acting does not end with her oscar winning roles. She is equally captivating, in all her roles. I especially loved her in 'That Hamilton Woman'. She was the perfect Lady Hamilton.
vivwenn 06/20/2001
Vivien Leigh was one of the most talented actresses. The role of Scarlett was hers alone, I have watched the screen tests of other actresses and clearly, Vivien was the best. Her Academy Awards for "Gone With The Wind" and "Streetcar Named Desire" were well deserved. Her scenes in "Streetcar" are heartbreaking.
CastleBee 03/28/2001
It seems to be the general consensus that Vivien Leigh was destined to play Scarlett O'Hara. I completely agree and believe that few actresses, if any, could have done a better more believable job. She looked and sounded exactly like the spoiled southern belle turned survivalist that Margaret Mitchell brought to life in her epic novel. It's kind of ironic to think that over the years the fact that she did such a great job in this coveted role somehow managed to eclipse almost everything else she did after that. This is unfortunate because she actually had quite a range as an actress and was probably among the most gifted talents of her day. One of the better-known examples of her great ability is her unforgettable performance as the troubled Blanche Dubois in Streetcar. For a long time those were the only two parts I identified her with. Then, not many years ago I discovered an interesting film I had never seen before - "Caesar and Cleopatra" an adaptation of a George Bernard Shaw play to film she did with Claude Raines in 1946. This was not only an entertaining movie in its own right, but also a good showcase of this actress's outstanding ability at character development. The metamorphosis from the innocent, almost childlike Cleopatra to the older, wiser and more cynical one is brilliant in its subtlety. And, it is so complete that it is almost as if the character is being played by two different actresses. Apparently she suffered from Bi-Polar disorder and this may have been where she drew at least some of her ability to change so completely on screen. Whatever the case, she certainly had that ability without question and it made her one of the more fascinating performers with a screen presence unlike anyone else.
