It was under Louis XV's reign that France continued to lose faith in the monarchy. Louis XV's indecisve leadership and personal scandals ultimately wiped out all citizenary faith in the abilities of the King. It was under Louis XV that France lost nearly half of its territories in the New World as a result of the Seven Years' War with Great Britain, including much of Canada and lands east of the Mississippi. France also abandoned India to the British. As a result of these humiliating defeats, France's prestige suffered and Louis XV's popularity shrunk. Louis XV's reign was full of indecisiveness and a lack of good judgment. It would be his successor that would pay dearly for the mistakes of Louis XV and previous kings.
