He's managed to remain the conscience of the 60's flower children and yet stay current which is quite a feat. Aside from a few odd side trips and failed experiments (Trans, Arc) he has produced a body of work that charts the course of 4 decades of rock and roll history and he's maintained a sharp eye as a lyricist and commentator. Even when he's bad - Keep on Rockin' in the Free World, for example - he's still kinda good.

Absolutely the greatest Canadian export. In the R&RHoF 3 times already. If he had only released HARVEST and AFTER THE GOLD RUSH he would be immortalized.

Overrated. More of a politician than a musician, but he couldn't be the mouthpiece that he is without being a musician first.
PlayMisty 11/16/2006
Probably the most annoying singer in the history of music. Even worse than Bob Dylan.

Still the single greatest rock music figure in the history of Canadian rock IMO. Not everything's been great, but could have retired after say 1970's "After the Gold Rush" album and would still be a legend for his Buffalo Springfield, C,S,N&Y, and early solo stuff.

An immortal.

Could arguably be the greatest musician on this good ol' planet earth, so to say he is the greatest Canadian musician is just a given. If you can name somebody legitimately better, I would love to hear it.

This man is rock and roll Royalty. He has made some brilliant stuff and he keeps on going! New stuff is mostly good. The baby boomers have just closed their minds and are stuck in 1979 listening to these bogus classic hit stations!

Best Canadian export (other than Crown Royal)! Great music and thought provoking lyrics, although his guitar playing is a bit overrated.

suck

I like his older stuff a lot more than anything he's done in the last decade. Good songwriter and a deceptively simple musician. Like Dylan, his voice, which sounds like a bandsaw going through a duck, is very compelling.

Probably my favorite musician/songwriter from Canada.I don't like everything he does, and his voice is far from perfect, but he's written a whole lot of great songs over the years-this guy has some LONGEVITY.LONG LIVE NEAL YOUNG !

Give me a break. Overrated. Can't say that anyone who is sometimes labeled as the Godfather of Grunge is going to inspire awe.

VB-MB Young can put you in the mood you want to be in as soon as you put on one of is tunes. All of us at Victoria Beach, MB rock out to Young everyday. He was, is and always will be the best musician out there.

I didn't actually know he was Canadian. But Keep On Rocking In The Free World would land him a good rating from me if he wasn't.

He doesn't have a crooning, loverboy, voice, but that plaintive moaning of his sure gets my attention. Heart of Gold is one of my all-time favorite songs ever. And though I am from the South I don't have any problem with Southern Man. Some of the criticisms made in that song were justified.

I'm much fonder of his really old stuff to his newer music but he's a talented singer-songwriter.
