WHO ruined rock and roll in the mid 70's? Besides big business, greed and the complacency of a lot of the good to great established acts of course...Well, this band was one of the first. An offshoot of The Guess Who, a clearly better band. In, say, '71, you still had a lot of great music, but something happened over the next few years, and by '74 there were very few good tunes and albums around, and even less by new artists, it wasn't until the punk movement that anything exciting was going on. Big names had died. Good bands morphed into bad supergroups, slickness and pedestrian techniques ruled the roost- there were a lot of placid and generally, with some exceptions, boring singer songwriters around. There was a lot of arena rock, country/ pop rock, turgid hard rock bands, and stuff like that. BTO was a boring trucker rock, party all night! lets go crazy! do a kegstand dude! hello Cleveland! sort of act, by the numbers, meat and potatoes rock. When I was about 14 I thought they were ok, but each day that goes by I hate 'em more and more...
