I'm only familiar with "Sonnets to Orpheus" and the "Duino Elegies," but what I did read was impressive. "Da stieg ein Baum, O Orpheus singt!! O hoher Baum im Ohr!!!"

I've only read Rilke in translation so, to be fair, I should be at least partly praising the translator J. B. Leishman. Rilke's poem "The Panther" left me feeling guilty about the enjoyment I've found in zoos ("He feels as though a thousand bars existed, / and no more world beyond them than before.". From "The Sonnets of Orpheus: Part II", there's a wonderful line referring to unicorn: "They fed it, not with corn, but only with the possibility of being."
