Not at all bad, but somewhat uneven. The language can be more than a bit of a struggle, even for those of us with some kind of Celtic roots.

A man who wrote from the heart about his fellow man. He loved the lassies and hated hypocrisy and injutice in equal measure.Author of hundreds of excellent poems and songs. His "Parcel Of Rogues" remains one of the most damning indictments of the 1707 Act Of Union between Scotland and England, where Burns accused Scottish commisioners of selling their country down the river (against the peoples' wishes) for "English gold".A genius who is probably as well known in Russia as he is in his native Scotland.

He is a giant. He wrote about history, politics, social conditions, and everything affecting the human condition in his day. I attend the Burns Dinner every year. He was born on January 25, but the dinner is on the weekend near that date for accomodation purposes. You should check the social calendars in you location for dinners are held all over the country, I'm sure. One of my favorites is his attack on the avaricious Scots who were bribed to sell out the liberty and independence of and join England in the formation of Great Britain in 1707. FAREWEEL to a our Scottish fame, Fareweel our ancient glory; Fareweel evn to the Scottish name, Sae famd in martial story. Now Sark rins over Solway sands, An Tweed rins to the ocean, To mark where Englands province stands Such a parcel of rogues in a nation! What force or guile could not subdue, Thro many warlike ages, Is wrought now by a coward few, For hireling traitors wages. The English stell we could disdain, Secure in valours station; But English gold has been our bane Such a parcel of rogues in a nation! O would, or I had seen the day That Treason thus could sell us, My auld grey head had lien in clay, Wi Bruce and loyal Wallace! But pith and power, till my last hour, Ill mak this declaration; Were bought and sold for English gold Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!
