Did that. Twice. In two separate sports. Thirty plus years ago. In the provincial highschool football championship game the best reciever in the province cuts twice and leaves me in his wake as he scores an easy touchdown. I guess I should feel better that he went on to a brief career in pro ball, after college, but I don`t.National Bantam (15 year old ) Baseball championship, we have the lead in the final inning with one out and the tying run on third. I`m catching, pitcher throws a slider in the dirt, batter swings and misses but the ball goes under my glove, hits my toe and skitters to the backstop. Tying run scores, the next batter singles to right, and we don`t do a thing in our half of the inning (including a weakass grounder to short by me) I'm over both of them now. I don't think of it more than three times a day.

My heart goes out to Luis Castillo. For anyone who doesn't know he dropped an easy pop-up to cost the Mets a game in their interleague series against the Yankees. You see as he's walking backwards he just gets off track a little bit. As an outfielder you're taught not to run back on your heels because you could trip and fall - also the ball appears to shake a little bit. You sometimes forget that on the gimmie's. This one didn't cost them a championship, and at the end of the season may not be that big a game - but the media attention in NY and also nationally this generated is terribly embarrassing for this guy.

i missed a goal in soccer that would have tied it up and sent us into overtime for our region championship. i just tell myself we would have lost it in overtime...

Wow, that's gotta suck--remember that poor Steve Bartman guy?

It's just a stupid game. Who cares. Having said that, if I screwed up and lost my team the championship, I think I would talk seriously with my parents about transferring to a different school next year.

Once while watching a middle school soccer game, I saw some fellow that made the terrible mistake of scoring a point for the other team. This one has got to be the worst, especially for a kid.

LOL--Yes time travel would solve a lot of our problems indeed. Hindsight is something great to have. This would be a lousy situation in any event. In sports, the more trival and preventable the mistake is, the more it hurts. Especially in a big game.
