My second favorite. Simplicity by contrast to Maryland's flag. Abstract, yet grounded.

To show this from the native peoples give new meaning on how proud the New Mexicans are living there. Simple, but satisfying.

Nice and simple and easy on the eyes!

The symbol is called a Zia and the red and yellow colors represent the Spanish conquistadores who explored this land. The symbol was found on an ancient jar at the Zia Pueblo in New Mexico and represents the sun. I think it is beautiful, simple, and meaningful.

It's simple, but I kind of like it.

This is one of the top two or three state flags! The use of the Indian symbolism is striking and distinctive. This is a masterpiece of flag design and use.

My favorite color aside, the strikingly simple design is identifiable with both the state and its culture.

Another of my favorite flags. Simple, bold, and you have no doubt what state's flag you're looking at.

This has to be a joke. Listen up people- just because the designer was to lazy to put more than two colors and one symbol onto the flag does NOT make the flag a quite striking example of the old adage 'less is more' !

Striking and visually appealing. Unusual, intense colors. Well thought out.

Awesome flag. I went to see the Albuquerque (i have no idea how to spell that) band The Shins the other night, and they had this flag displayed. What other state flag band would be displayed at a concert?

New Mexico's state flag is distinctive and relevant to the state's history, namely a Native American design on a plain burnt yellow background. What else could one want in a state flag?
Jed1000 04/17/2004
Simple yet distinctive in its use of local native American symbols.
