 | GenghisTheHun (181) 04/06/2006 | They took out the battleflag but left the bars from the Confederate Stars and Bars.
This is a good joke on the illiterate, politically correct morons who were howling for change.

 | operator 409 (7) 08/15/2005 | Most of the disdain for this current(and hopefully permanent) state flag is coming from those who were in favor of keeping the old flag, the one featuring the Confederate battle cross. People who like the Confederate flag should display the real thing in any way they see fit, and not hide behind the fact that it is a STATE flag that they are flying, not the honest to goodness, unadulterated Rebel flag. There is nothing,in my opinion, wrong with the Confederate flag. The STATE flag, however, is supposed to be an OFFICIAL symbol. Regardless of what side you take in that long ago war, when Lee signed the surrender at Appomattox, the Confederacy became OFFICIALLY irrelevant. The losing side of any conflict forfeits the right to fly their banner.Whether you respect it (as I do)...hate it (as many do for reasons all their own), or have no opinion one way or the other, the Confederate Battle flag, or St.Andrews Cross, is as OFFICIALLY relevant as Confederate money. It belongs in the hearts and minds and museums of those that revere it. Not on any government flagpole.

 | defbean (5) 03/25/2005 | It's a shame they had to take out the Confederate flag because people think it represents slavery. When will people learn the Confederacy was about freedom from the states, not slavery. I have pride of my family members who fought for the South and slowly taking the flag out of society is, for me at least, a slap in the face.

 | bibliophile (13) 09/24/2004 | Very dignified looking and distinctive, visually pleasing. I dont' know if it really gives any hints that it stands for Georgia, but it's a good flag.

 | LanceRoxas (41) 09/17/2004 | The new flag is a vast improvement over the one that reflected the confederate symbolism. One can argue that defiance for states rights was a noble cause but the matter was more purely economic and racist. Do you think if legal hegomony of slave laws existed the south would have succeeded over other perceived infringements on states rights? Of course not. Though I disagree with Ralph's blanket assessment of all Georgians, the secession from our Union was a treasonous act and hardly something to hang your hat on. Today this nation has healed itself 5 times over. The beauty of our culture is that through vibrant political discourse the truth will reveal itself and change the face of government as we grow as a people. That being said why promote the symbolism of your darkest black eye?

 | Lexeydog (0) 08/11/2004 | They threw out a meaningful piece of history to pander to political correctness. I grew up in the state, and had always been proud of the unique cultural symbolism of the previous flag. It's very unfortunate that the PC machine can manufacture some soundbites that shallow intellects use as a guidepost to voting. Well, at least they put it up to the people's vote. I grew up under that flag, and am very sad that it's been corrupted by bullying PC police and special interests.
