Way too simple for the flag of our nation's capital.

Great simple design but it just doesn't say DC to me, like say the Lone Star State's flag does. Apparently George Washington's coat of arms was two bars and three mullets (Yes, fish! No, a bad haircut! No, not really.). These mullets symbolized rowels, which were the multi-pointed spinning parts of a horse rider's spurs. In heraldry, these were represented by mullets - simplified by removing the hole and perhaps increasing the height of the points and reducing their number to become the five-pointed stars we see on this flag today. So, apparently there is little relationship between the number of bars and stars on this flag and the area it represents.

I don't know - it makes me think of one of the former Eastern Block nations.

It really is a first rate flag. I am suprised! The design is striking.

DC IS NOT A STATE ! It's a Federal Territory.

This is pretty good - considering all the lousy state-seal-on-blue-background, it should indeed get a 5 for its uniqueness as well as simplicity. The design is the heraldic colors from George Washington's family - you know, as in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.

Not bad...simple and recognizable. It has the stars in it, like many other American flags, but only 3, and they are colored red, so it is somewhat unique.

If I'm not mistaken the two red bars represent the two states (Maryland and Virginia) from which the District was carved out. The three stars may represent the three branches of government but I'm not sure about that one.
