Danish religious philosopher who insisted on the need for individual decision and leaps of faith in the search for religious truth, thereby contradicting Protestant dogma and Hegelianism. Quote: "The truth is a snare: you cannot have it, without being caught. You cannot have the truth in such a way that you catch it, but only in such a way that it catches you. (Add picture)

Overwrought and overrated ideas. My compassion for his sad life exceeds my admiration for his sad thinking by far.

A fascinating man. A Denmark native who believed in god and chose the path of religion whilst openly accepting that his belief in God was a leap of faith. He asked that true believers find faith in themselves rather then simply obey the dogma spouted by the clergy. Some would say he was a latter day Martin Luther, but without the stifling effect of having to play the political climate. Unlike Luther he was never really recognized until after his death. Ironically he become an icon of the modernism movement along with the somewhat less christian Frederich Nietzsche. He had a rich grasp of language and was a devout individualist, almost extremist in this regard, demanding that people disassociate themselves from their standardized ethical and intellectual precepts and judge his works (and everything else) completely objectively to find out who they really are. This philosopher was a true believer, he certainly wanted to tout the merits of christianity but he darn sure wanted people make the decision to practice it of their own independent free will.
