McStarbucks look almost like real coffee houses. If you're willing to pay $35 per gallon for mediocre coffe in a plastic version of a hip hangout, they provide the opportunity.

Starbucks, although the Wal-Mart of the coffee industry, has maintained a good image. By offering decent pay and benefits to all employees who work at least 21 hours per week I believe. They do their part same as most large food chains by printing cups on recycled paper and donate to various charities. I was told that the most expensive product they purchase is milk, not coffee because milk goes bad and they need to be cognisant of the amount purchased. I agree that the coffee is not my favorite, it is strong and bitter and I will rarely drink it. They have marketing the starbucks ambiance extremely well and people go there for the experience, nice interior and to sit down and read, conversate or work.

They've got one of the best marketing departments in recent corporate memory, which has allowed them to market over-priced mediocre coffee with the kind of success that CEO's have wet dreams about. They are a decent if not great employer, their outlets tend to be clean and attractive, but they aren't anything special. I regard them as the Macdonalds of coffee chains, acceptable if there's absolutely nothing else around.

I guess if I was in death valley and on the show fear factor for 10k I would have to drink it but.....Yes I have and I have been to cupping’s with the worlds finest coffees (starbucks did not even make the grade to be included) but I did compare them to starbucks and could see that under the above circumstances any one could train their pallet.
Have you ever been to a slaughter house and seen the long lines of cows going in? One cow follows the other (the most popular) so they think they are getting something good. be smarter people they got beat 6 out of 6 test by McDonalds. And they were beat by Yuban. wakee wakee and go smell some real coffee at a local coffee house its generally fresher and better for the place you live. dont believe me taste them side by side un-cupped with an open pallet. and if you can think for yourself you will find that you are smarter than a heifer led to slaughter. -5 stars for community, -5 stars for coffee, -5 stars for predatory marketing, -5 stars for what they do to family owned shops, -5 stars for originality, +25 stars for convincing the masses that Crapaccinos are a real drink. so that’s a total of a BIG ZERO

Starbucks coffee is OK but expensive, their snacks are over-priced and disgusting; they pay their employees better than average; their stores range from very clean to filthy; their marketing is excellent; they are covenient but utterly forgettable. Pretty much an average company.

I think the company and the coffee are way overrated.

Definatly prefer seeing Starbucks everywhere than McDonald, at least the employees ARE NOT exploited and the drinks and food they provide won't make any more americans OBESE

The product isn't bad- but waaay overpriced. And the riduculous 'size' names are so pompous. . .

I simply detest their coffee with a passion. I do not understand what all the fuss is about. However my daughter in law got me to try a Caramel Frappcuinno (I'm not sure I spelled that right), and now I'm hooked, hence the three stars.

How is it that Starbucks is better than smaller coffee shops? I love the coffee my local coffee shops offer and the atmosphere is much better, too. The town I live in was just fine until about a year ago when Starbucks decided our downtown wasnt complete without their neon eyesore. AND they decided to put thier store not even 1/2 a block away from a locally-owned coffee shop that has served us well for as long as I can remember. WHY? Just to prove that because this is a college town and people in the Midwest are dying to be in the ranks of the cool set they will drink any liquid crap they sell? Every time I drive by Starbucks it is always filled with people. Of course windows surround the building so everyone can see how cool the patrons inside are because thier cup has the same logo as Ashley Olson's. It's all about image and brand name in this society. I'd rather drink delicious coffee out of a plastic mug than drink crap out of a Starbucks cup. Before we had a Starbucks I never once heard anyone say Oh, I wish we had a Starbucks because the coffee shops we have now are terrible!! I have never been to a Starbucks and never will. I dont care if they do give their employees good benefits, etc. If teenage prostitutes were given health, dental, and 401k stock options would that make thier pimps fine upstanding citizens?

Overpriced crap served by exploited employees.

Add a venti Caramel Macchiatto to my morning, and I'm ready to tackle my day.

Despite my leftist tendencies and the fact that I live in San Francisco, I am a big believer in capitalism. I have no problem with big companies just because they're big. If a company can consistently offer a quality product or service, they deserve to be big - and they deserve to make lots of money. I have never been in a Starbucks that wasn't clean and well run. The coffee always tastes the same, and always tastes good. They displace some smaller coffee shops because they are very good at what they do. In terms of corporate responsibility, Starbucks seems to be doing all the right things - they adhere to green policies and have great benefits for their employees that extend to domestic partners. I know they're big, and I know they're everywhere - but that by itself doesn't make them evil.
