It wears off and sometimes you get disappointed, so I'll throw a four here, methinks.

I won't say that sex cannot lead to happiness, but to say it is essential is far from the truth. I am sure there are plenty of people who live a happy life without much concern for sex.

It puts you in a good, no, great mood. It feels great! You feel elated and desired. It is basic human drive. To a certain extand I can see it being essential, but compared to love, family, and friends, it feels not as important.

Lots of fun but again, not essential for happiness

Yeah, I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I'm older than a lot of you. Sex makes you happy at the moment, but when you break up with a lover nothing on earth makes you more miserable than the memory of it, and the loss. Shakespeare called it An expense of spirit in a waste of shame, and damn he was right. It's perfectly wonderful, but accept it for what it IS, no more, no less; happiness just in that moment only.

Yes. We need intimacy which is part of love. We can go long periods of time without it, but in the end a person void of sex completely is starved for love and intimacy, and in turn their happiness.

Sex,in and of itself, does not necessarily lead to happiness. However, with the right partner it sure does! (The right partner, for me,at least-is someone I have a deep connection with and care for as much as if not more than myself.)

In my previous experiences, Sex only brought emptiness. I believe sex used mainly for pleasure may please the flesh but the soul still remains empty. I've met people who have hit rock bottom when it came to sex because they wanted more and more of it and kept needing to make it more and more fun and realized there is so much more to life. After they hit rock bottom, they realized there is more to life than what is on earth. I can empathize with that.

On its own, its just friction. Remarkably pleasurable friction, I grant you, but just friction. As part of a fully developed and tested relationship it is a marvellous facet of life.

Sex is great, the best when it's coupled with love; it's extremely fulfilling. Whether it's essential to happiness, though, is debatable--I'm sure there are many people who have taken vows of celibacy who are perfectly happy without sex. Not something I'd want to do, but if they're happy, that's what matters.

If the sex is good, and you're having sex with someone you deeply care about, then, yes, sex can provide happiness. But I agree with Enkidu when he says that when the relationship with this person ends, nothing can be more hurtful than recalling his embraces.

I guess when I get older, this won't matter so much. It still matters a hell of a lot now, though.
