 | zuchinibut (36) 01/10/2008 | Good health is a major reason to be happy, but I believe people can be happy despite having health problems. Hell...I have cancer and I consider myself extremely happy, so this isn't essential.

 | Djahuti (54) 03/09/2005 | People tend to take their bodies for granted until something goes wrong. It's hard to enjoy your life if you are in pain-however,I have met many people with chronic pain and severe disabilities who seem to enjoy life more than many folks who take their good health for granted.

 | Sundiszno (30) 12/09/2004 | I think that depending on what ails you, you can still be happy. If you know you have something terminal, it'd be tough to be happy, but if ill health is just a temporary thing (like a cold or the flu), I think I could cope with it. I've had a couple of instances in my life (when I was a lot younger) that I was laid up in the hospital, and I found it to be really relaxing. Didn't have to worry about work, read lots of books, had plenty of family and friends come to visit - in some respects, it was much more pleasant being in the hospital than it would have been if I had been completely healthy.

 | Seraph (8) 12/08/2004 | Without good health, it's nearly impossible to be completely happy.

 | abichara (60) 10/17/2004 | Yes, it's important but not really the most essential to happiness. The problem is that most of us don't really put much value on good health until we lose it. Having this means that we're not very limited in what we can do physically, but true happiness comes from much more than that.

 | LadyShark4534 (12) 06/18/2004 | I would think so. I don't think living with a terminal illness would be pleasant.

 | Molfan (57) 04/22/2004 | a 4.5. Good health is very important. I cannot imagine feeling lousy or in constant pain. I am grateful for my health being good for the most part. Especially after having a couple of health scares in my life.

 | CastleBee (81) 04/21/2004 | Regardless of any good thing that may be happening in your life, if you don't have this you sure won't be happy long.

 | Enkidu (37) 04/20/2004 | It's pretty hard to be happy if you don't have this. If you have it--carpe diem. It's not forever.

 | kolby1973 (32) 04/20/2004 | Something that is very important and always makes me happy. When I am sick, I am miserable...and I am also miserable when people I care for are ill...

 | AndrewScott (71) 04/19/2004 | Anything constant in our lives tends to be taken for granted. The only people who get extra joy from their good health are those that know sickness all too well. Yet, anytime we lose a wonderful constancy in our lives (such as good health), whatever happiness we have flies out the window. The cliché You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone holds profound truth.

 | kamylienne (77) 04/19/2004 | Doesn't seem like it until it starts to go; having nasty little colds, stomach bugs, headaches and what-not are good reminders of hey, it's so nice when I can actually breathe out of BOTH nostrils or it would be really great if I could stand up without doubling over right about now. Or, in extreme cases, my husband's uncle, otherwise in great health, found that he had cancer and died within just a few weeks of finding out, when his death could have been so easily prevented. Amazing how it's so easily overlooked, but so important at the same time.
