Not always essential, but someone is much more likely to be happy when they feel they have a meaningful purpose in life that a rewarding job often provides. Aside from a sense of purpose, jobs often give us many positive social connections and a sense of worth to others, which is linked to happiness. Still, not everyone with a rewarding career is happy. Some are merely satisfied with their worklife, with other factors overriding their overall happiness.

Whoever out there is actually happy when your at work, consider yourself very lucky. In my opinion if you really love your work then you are not working. Most of us have to work at what we know, not what makes us happy. Thats why they call it work. If I could play music for a living I would feel truly blessed. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Thinking of all the hard work I put in at high school/college and to where I am now, that makes me happy.

Some of us are lucky enough to have an emotionally and/or spiritually rewarding career-but it is possible to support oneself yet get your satisfaction elsewhere.

Depends on what you mean by rewarding. Regardless, being happy with what you do is somewhat important to making sure you enjoy life and are happy. And waking up every day just to go to a job you hate can really take a toll on you emotionally.

Most people are going to spend one half to one third of their adult life working. It is best, if you can manage it, to find a career you love. It is even better to know when it's run its course and make the essential changes.

Nothing is more of a drag on happiness than having to go to a job everyday that you either hate or have virtually no passion for. An enjoyable job does lead to happiness.

I do not know if this will ever happen, but I do think I would be extremely happy if I could find just one job I loved for more than 2 months. I get so bored so quickly with my jobs. But I do feel that a great career would make me very happy..and I also feel it makes alot of other people happy as well...

. . . oddly enough, I can say the same exact thing that Enkidu did right now. Perhaps I should be looking up new jobs right now instead of doing this . . . .

I'm on vacation for a week and facing the difficult realization that I'm much happier away from work than I am when I'm there. Oh WELL. Sometimes life gives you little hints it's time for a change.
