Greenwich is not what one normally thinks of as London (i.e., hustle and bustle, big buildings, confined spaces, noise, traffic, etc.). It's a great place to walk around, relax, and enjoy the many small spcialty shops that abound. If you go to the Observatory, you can stand with one foot in one time zone, and the other foot in another time zone (at least that's the theory).

Best way to get there is definately by boat. You can catch a river cruise from Westminster and look at the view. Greenwich is very clean, has a great park where you can see deer and the greenwich meantime line. The view is spectacular - you can see Canary Wharf from the hill. Definately something you should do in the summer, especially if you have a family or want to surprise a loved-one.
